Rand Richards in his Historic Walks in San Francisco" mentions the Monaco Theater Restaurant. It is tied up with the more famous Old Hippodrome which occupied the site (555 Pacific). The Old Hippodrome had been on one side of Pacific Ave or the other (5560 Pacific) since the 1900s.

Good luck in your research

My parents loved to go to the Monaco Club during the 1940's. I still remember when they took my 3 older rothers and me there to have dinner. One of my brother's still has the photo! Trivia: The father of the current owner of the Gold Spike on Columbus was a young waiter at the Monaco. The Spike has a menu from that era.

wow........in going thru some pictures i found several photos taken july 7, 1946,,,my mom, dad, uncle and grand parents celebrating my moms 22nd birthday........would be happy to send anyone a copy of the folder the picture is in ......shows a drawing of the restruant on the front......inside: MONACO Theatre Restaurant in the INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENT is outstanding in all San Francisco for food and entertainment... the lights sparkle over the great old hall and balconies. Again the stage which fostered Jenny Lind resounds with song. And here mingle pleasure-seekers of all ages. Here to Monaco Theatre Restaurant flock entire families for goo Continental food prepared by Chef Leo Capeloti, as well as for the Monaco shows. The dream come true! The International Settlement, founded by Pierino Gavello, is a Phoenix risen from the ashes. The old Barbary Coast is revived inmodern terms, a _glitter with the romance, gaiety adn food that San Francisco so loves!! ken
