Absolution

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

When you go into the confessional, it always seems your mind goes blank. Even though I confess every night to God and I *try* to remember when I go to Confession....I know I forget a couple of things. So, my question is this~if I've already made a full confession to God and then I go to Confession and confess and the priest grants me absolution, am I totally covered? Even for the ones that I forgot to mention in the confessional?

Thanks and God bless~

Yes. You are. However, you should still remember to confess those sins you forgot at your next confession.

Jake is right.....Just remember to go to confession and to confess those sins that you forgot. All will be ok, remember the Lord loves his children forever and always..."Confess with your mouth and you shall be forgiven"....

Alright. Thanks so much for the help. :)

God bless~

You should try to prepare yourself specially before you go into the confessional, using an "examination of conscience" from a good prayerbook.

You must be sure to confess any mortal sins you have as soon as you recall them, or your soul is in grave danger!

Of course, it is not absolutely necessary to confess every venial sin anyway. All venial sins, remembered and forgotten, confessed and unconfessed, are fully forgiven during confession, and if you remember them later, it is not necessary to mention them during your next confession, since it was not actually necessary to mention them the first time. Mortal sins are an enrirely different matter. If you honestly do forget to mention a mortal sin, the fact of forgetting it is not held against you until your next confession, but you do need to confess it the next time, and the next time should be as soon as possible! Frankly though, I don't know how it would be possible to overlook such a grave evil during an examination of conscience.

Oh, it's happened to me. People get nervous and innocently forget, especially if it's something from long ago that God has just given you the grace to remember recently, or if (heh) they've got a long laundry list!

Point taken, though, that a good examination of conscience is essential. I made a general confession during my retreat in September. What a privilege! Of course, I had 2 full, undistracted days to prepare.

Making a grocey list of sins as a prepareation for Confession has always helped me to cover all my sins in confession.

If anyone is worried about forgetting something, bring a list. I have to make lists for everything, including this.
