Any way to still have a Catholic Mass?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi,

I am getting married on May 10, 2003. My fiance is protestant, and we planned a non-denominational service. I am now having second thoughts, and would really like to have a Catholic ceremony. My fiance is willing. However, the wedding is in 3.5 months, so I don't know if it is possible because of the "6 month" rule." Also, he is divorced, and cannot get an annulment because of Arizona law and his child. Any chance of still having a Catholic marriage ceremony?

Amy, great that you want a Catholic wedding, but you most likely have to put off your wedding till a later date.

I not sure how Arizona law fits into this, but just because he has a child, does not mean that the Church recognizes his former marriage as valid.

Contact a priest, and discuss your situation. If you have to wait for a later date, then I strongly suggest that you do. God bless.

Amy, I agree with Gordon's advice, although you must find it heartbreaking. The Catholic Church as reasons for the wait! Those involved in family-related ministries will offer classes to both you to prepare you for married life, and to help you understand the True purposes of the vocation of husband and wife. I believe that if you take Gordon's advice, you will always be thankful that you did. Pax Christi.
