AUGUSTA NORTHERN RAILROAD ? I am a railroad enthusiast, who as a close friend that had purchased an old motor car {fairmont S-2} that had a sign that you only could make out the word Northern. Well being curious, I contacted Fairmont motors for a history card. It said that it was built for the Augusta Nothern railroad. It had been shipped to Saluda Depot in 1937. My question is: Was it a part of ACL SAL or SOU RY? Any help would be appreciated.

I live in Saluda County. I noticed this afternoon that the old depot building is for sale. It has been a farm and garden store for the past forty years or so. It sure would make a nice railroad museum.

There is a rotted old combine which ran on the August Northern just off the road between Ward and Saluda. It is beyond restoration, but the hulk is still there in the woods.mw

The AUGUSTA NORTHERN RAILWAY, Saluda to Ward, SC, 12 miles, opened in 1912 and was abandoned in May 1941. This was always a short line railroad and is not known to have been part of a major, or Class I railroad company.
