More advertising at SBS : LUSENET : Friends of the ABC : One Thread

I don't know if you have an equal passion for SBS but Gerald Stone - a board member is pushing for advertising to be put within the programs such as news and dateline (that I know of - perhaps more). The attitude (from one exec) is that it is inevitable.

If the public knew I think there would be an outcry.

Yes, I worry about what is happening to the SBS both for its own sake, because the SBS is also a valued public broadcaster, and also because what is being tried on the SBS today might be pushed on the ABC tomorrow. Since Brian Johns introduced advertising on the SBS, there has been constant pressure on the ABC to do the same.

The Friends of the ABC objectives,as they stand, relate only to the ABC. I have suggested to the various Friends of the ABC organisations that perhaps we should consider wideninng our aims to include the SBS
