parental investment theory

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

i'm writing a paper on evolutionary psychology. My question is: who's the "father" of the parental investment theory? This theory explains why man and woman are jealous: man demannds exclusive sexual contact, woman demands contribution to the raise of the offspring. mariska

Run a Google search on this one: the web is full of relates sites. I would also run the term "paternity confidence," which is a critical issue as well: a man wants to be sure he actually fathered the child he is supposed to parent.

thank you for your answer! I did run a google but I couldn't find who's the 'father' of this specific theory. The only thing my computer came up with was a list of articles in wich this theory was mentioned. These articles cost $11,50 each and there is no garantee that I have a name than. Mariska

The answer is Robert Trivers- He expanded on what darwin said about how males compete for access to women via fighting and also said thats is why women are more choosy...but trivers came in and said that due to the women mostly being the gender with the highest parental investment doesnt compete because- it gets to choose and also they offer the physical aspect..
