In the downtown area of Fayetteville, their appears to be two train stations. One is used by CSX and Amtrak and the second one is vacant about two blocks away. What is the origin of these two stations. Thanks

Just as an aside, the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railway also operated track from Fayetteville to Bennettsville, SC, beginning around 1883. The portion of that line from south of Parkton to Red Springs still exists today as the Red Springs and Northern, which our group is developing as a tourist line.

The Amtrak station is the former Fayetteville passenger depot of the ACL. The other depot is the former Fayetteville passenger station and office building of the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley RR. A local group is trying to restore the CF&YV depot. The CF&YV ran from Wilmington to Mt.Airy, NC. The Southern Rwy. bought the CF&YV in the 1890s and sold the part South of Sanford, NC to the ACL.
