WWI units organized from SF

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I would like to correspond with someone who is knowledgeable about troops units organized from SF in 1917. I have the WWI draft reg. card for an individual who registered in SF in June and was sent to train in Seattle in Aug 1917 before being sent to France. Unfortunately, the reg. card is hard to read and I can't make out the number in the following phrase: "Registered with 8th (?) Engineer Corps". Was there an 8th Engineer Corps organized out of SF? This person was very experienced with automobilies, and became a wagoner. I'd be very grateful for your repsonse. Thanks, Jennifer

Recommend you contact the California Military Museum at http://www.militarymuseum.org

They have lots of information on units formed up in the City.

The most famous of these was 363 Infantry Regiment of the 91st Division.
