write to Pope to go to Baghdad,

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Have people been getting the message to write to the Pope and ask him to act as a human shield and go to Baghdad? He really could stop the war because there is no way that Bush would bomb if he knew that the Pope was there. The Pope could dramaticlly change history and make such a beautiful statement about the love God has for humanity. The world would have to take notice. What would be the best way to send a message to him? to the Vatican, to Bishops?

The Holy Father has already spoken at length on the subject of peace in the Middle East.

The pope is not a political activist.

Our Holy Father is a religious leader, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, the shepherd of the flock.

(Just as dualling or suicide are mortal sins,) It would be contrary to all that we believe for him to place himself in harm's way, just to make a political statement.

Leave that to the poli-sci students.

Pax Christi.

I can't believe anyone could seriously suggest asking the Pope to use himself as a human shield in Baghdad. If he were to do that in every war situation, or threat of war situation, he would be unable to carry out his role as shepherd of the flock to the whole Church on earth. Iraq is one of many countires in the world where suffering, torture and death occur on a regular basis, it would prove impossible to visit each of these countries, whose people equally deserve to be able to live in peace. Our Holy Father needs the freedom to speak out agains atrocities, to call for peace, to ask for our prayers, to be a visible sign of Christ's love and message of peace.

Incidentally, I also wanted to point out that the Sara who posted that suggestion is not myself!

Peace be with you all

I just wonder how anyone can expect a man that can't even stop all of the sinning and child molesting that goes on in his own churches, to stop a war.

I think it is a disgrace that he turns his head and allows such things to go on.

At least the war WILL liberate those people, too bad someone in the Catholic world doesn't try and do the same for those poor trusting children that are scarred for life by the atrocacies that occur within the Catholic churches.

I know, count a few beads, all is forgiven. In that case, count a few more and on with the Liberation!

That's very quick of you Barry, but if you believe the accounts of 'john paul' selling poisonous chemicals to the nazis during WWII specifically to murder Auschwitz Jews, it doesn't seem that he would even TRY to stop any atrocities occouring in the so-called catholic church. "Behold A Pale Horse" by the recently murdered William Cooper is an interesting read on the subject.

I am a baptized Ukranian Catholic, converted to Roman Catholic, then an observer of Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Orthodox and Protestant services. We need to find priests who have better conection to the average attendee.

Stop bringing gay-radicals into the priesthood.
