Faith in times of troubles

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

It is very apparent that the US will be going to war with Iraq in the next few days. But we as Christians know that God is in control we must not be moved by fear or the uncertainty of others. To the contrary we must be bold in proclaiming our Love for Jesus Christ and spread the message of hope to our family and colleagues. At my church I started a Lenten series call "faith in times of trouble" we meet every wednesday for 35 minutes for prayer and discussion around issues of fear, anxiety and doubt for scripture addresses all of these things including war. I would suggest that you start a "faith in times of trouble" group at your church or at your work place, gather your co-workers for prayer and inspirational readings, you can have different people take turns. Look at the biography of richard allen, harriet tubman, etc to see how these people of God stood on faith. God bless and stay strong in the Lord. Pray for our service men and women and trust God not the news!

Many of us are baffled by the turns and decisions that the US government takes at times. Everywhere you go, one will find that many people perceive continental US as the haven, sort of like Canaan, the land full of milk and honey.

However there is also the other side of the US that makes one to stand still wonder for a while. That is the time when its leadership takes irresponsible decisions like going to war over silly war heads and apparent threats. My question is, if US has got sufficient army power to overcome Iraq with its deadly weaponry, who is keeping watch over the US whther their weaponry is disarmed the likes to what they want Iraq to do.

I for one doesnot encourage and is not in favour of any war, doesnot matter what it is all about. We must promote peace, and world peace for that matter. Bush should be told, I mean he is suppose to be christian, is he? That as children of God we promote and should instill peace in the world order, not desputes, or conforntations or war peace!!!

The people of US should also rise, and make their mark through marches and interventions to high offices in order to stop Bush from going to war. For in this war your children will die, innocent people will die and for what, for self centeredness of one person with echo as big as the atalantic ocean. No we cannot and should not allow this madness. Please coleagues and friends, do your best to stop this war, for my entire body shiffers when I think of the rippling effects of this war. God bless and keep His people!!

Amen again Rev. Denise

The case for war is political and economic. The cost of war is very personal. People will die. While I am not impressed with either the case or the tenor of the President I too am praying for all of you. This will not end the problem in my opinion so we will need to stay in prayer.

God Be with you all my American Brothers and Sisters during this time.

Yes...the times are a changing! Yet one thing remains the same and is a constant: God is Great and God is Good! We too have a group which meets every Wednesday at 10:00 am to strengthen the faith of the fellowship. We remain in prayer, and lift up our brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and relatives in the armed forces! May God bless each and every one.

I forgot to add that our "faith in times of trouble" meets at noon time at a coffee house. Last week we met at wal-mart. This way people can come during lunch time and get back to work. I also ask that we pray for our police, firefighters and first responders as they too gear up at home for possible attacks. And if you want to do something else to help volunteer at the Red Cross and give blood. With the talk of war many blood donors maybe waiting for something to happen but we need blood all year round. We are in the greatest denomination in the world and we as a.m.e's have always been bold in the time of need. Let us unite to encourage one another. Social service funding maybe affected by war, let us stock our food pantries at church, start collecting clothes for those unemployed and start writing letters of support to our armed service men and women and their families. You can contact your senators office to find out where to send letters and email and most of all increase prayer meetings, increase evangelism and stand on your faith. I love all of you so much.
