Problem with Sony Mavica FD-83? Repair where? and is it worth it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Photography Singapore : One Thread

Hello, my 3-year old digital camera model Sony Mavica FD83 (1.3m pixels, zoom 3x optical, 3x digital, floppy disk) has got some problems. The zoom and the focus don't work anymore. So now, in order to use it, I have focus manually without any possibility to zoom. The facts: * The value of this camera is now about S$400 ( average price on ebay) * To repair it with sony singapore, it will cost me $110 for the service (not sure if some components will need to be changed and added to the price) 1 - Is it worth to repair it with Sony? 2 - Where I can repair it for a cheaper price in Singapore? 3 - Is it worth to repair it? Thanks a lot, folks.

David, if you haven't repaired your camera yet, at least take the time to send it to Tim Driver. His link is www.mavicaservice.homestead.com/files/ Sony_Mavica_Repair_Form.pdf He will give you the honest truth if it is worth fixing or not, and at a fraction of what sony would charge. I bought a used FD83 from Tim over a year ago and love it.
