plans for a sliding seat rowing boat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Open-water rowing : One Thread

I am looking to build myself a boat. Primarily because no-one down here in NZ seems to build them. Can anyone put me on to some plans for an open water boat that can be rowed in coastal conditions. Not huge seas but stable in a maximum of about 0.5 - 1 mtr swell. Thanks

Lionel -

Where are you in NZ? I'm living in Waikanae, working in Wellington, and am about to finish my second boat - both are sliding seat. These are prototypes as I'm working towards developing a kit for home construction. Design aims: beach-launchable; reasonable speed for touring; seaworthy for rough conditions; sufficient stability to make fishing (in good conditions) relaxing.

I'm a fair way off having a marketable product, but I'd certainly like some feedback on where I'm at at the moment.
