Meat and Easter Saturday, should we abstain?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I know and understand about abstaining from eating meat during The Fridays of lent and so forth. My question is this: Are we required to abstain from eating meat on Easter Saturday, the day before the Resurection. Some say yes, others say now, and other still say they don't really know. Could Someone shed some light on this?

No, Holy Saturday is not a day of fast or abstinence, at least not in the United States, and not anywhere that I know of.

It was, however, an old law of the Church to fast and abstain the day before a first class feast. While this is no longer obligatory, it is never a bad idea to try and prepare yourself better for the solemnity of the feast by extra penance. Especially considering the importance of the Resurrection. Think of it this way, Holy Saturday was the day Our Lord lay in His tomb all day, (Easter Saturday is actually the Saturday after Easter) so a little extra penance would never hurt on this day.
