As far as I understand it, if your name is still on the deeds, you are still liable for any debts, divorced or not.

Yes. You are absolutely right. The original agreement with the creditor whether it be a house loan or a vehicle loan supercedes any other verbal/written agreement between you and the other party regardless of the situation. Shelia Ps Im in the same boat.
