Hi Dude, Genting Sempah is where most of the roadies do thier climb. They start off at the Orang Asli Hospital, and the last end of Gombak and all the way up to the McDonalds at the foot of Genting. It's a road climb but you can always use knobbies to climb. It's about 16++km. You'll have funnnnnnnnnnnn.................

I assume you're wondering why the flurry of training lately. Coming up this weekend is a Team Time Trial event as part of the "Lumba Haram" race series. Teams of 4 will try to set their best time for the 15 or so kilometers of the old highway from Gombak to Genting Sempah. Entry fee will be some low number like $20 or so per person, the bulk of which will go into a pot for the winning team to take home. Just a way of encouraging a bit more local racing.

Genting Sempah is generally considered a popular location to log a few road miles without having to battle too much traffic. The ride is a reasonably steady climb of about 5% for about 12 kilometers from just out of Gombak, increasing in pitch to 8% or so for the last 3 km's to Genting Sempah. From there many people go on either to Bentong or Janda Baik for a longer out and back ride, or turn up for the big climb to Awana or even (for the terminally musclebound) Genting Resort. These can also be done as out and back or a large triangle route using the descent from Awana to Ulu Yam Baru and back to Gombak via Batu Caves, something like 90 km/s round trip.

Need more info yet? Just ask.

Cheers, Pat
