looking for a new series to watch (I have specific criteria)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread

My brother is in town and we agreed that we ought to watch an anime series together for the fun of it. I'm a a HUGE anime fan and watch lots of different things (E's Otherwise, Inuyasha, Scrapped Princess, Last Exile...etc.) but my brother hasn't seen much, so I'm trying to find an intelligent series that doesn't have tons of fighting (DBZ, Flame of Recca, Yu Yu Hakusho) and isn't really girly and sweet (Fruits Basket, Ai Yori Aoshi). Also I rather something that isn't embarrassingly stupid (DN Angel, Air Master) and it can't have anything explicit. He saw some of some Gundam series and liked it, and he has also liked what he's seen of Cowboy Bebop. Still I rather something better, like Kino's Travels. That would've been the perfect show, but only 00, 01 and 02 are available. We watched those together and he thought they were great. Is there any other show akin to Kino's Travels? That show is gorgeous... Anyway, I would really appreciate suggestions for an "artistic" and thought- provoking series, that won't have him looking over at me periodically with a look that says, "You actually enjoy this...?"

Hikaru no Go ( a lot of people like this, so I think it's easy to find). It's a bit bore to me though.

I don't know many series, but a ***really good*** movie is "Princess Mononoke" by Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli). There's the gorgeous graphics and action at face value, but behind everything is this elaborate theme of life vs death; but one does not prevail over the other. Rather, it... I'm at a loss of words, but I'm sure he'll like it. If you haven't already watched this, < http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/mh/ >. Don't read too much or it'll spoil it for you. But read it afterwards. "Thought-provoking" as you say.

try Wolfs Rain...it is really good. Or Naruto....or Shaman King all are good series but the first really blew my mind with the art work and story line. Check it out!!
