Choice Theory

greenspun.com : LUSENET : GLASSER Choice Theory & Reality Therapy : One Thread

Hi, Dr. William Glasser. My name is Fahima, I am a student at New Milford, currently taking Psychology. I chose you for my Personality Prject in Psychology class. There were some question that I wanted to ask you about your Choice Theory. I will appreciate it very much if you can get back to me as soon as possible. I am intrested in your Choice Theory, I actually agree with it. These are the following questions:

1. What are the main ideas of Dr. Glasser's Choice Theory? 2. Is the theory a reaction to another theory of school of thought? If so, what school? 3. Often the theorist's life has affected their ideas on human development. What elements of the theorist's life have impacted or influenced his (Dr.Glasser) theory? 4. Major contributions of the theory to the field of personality study?

If you look at some of the answers to the queries on this web page it may be helpful..... try: Compare and contrast Roger's client centred therapy to Glasser's Reality Therapy.....Linda Green. "Searching for a type of biography of Dr.Glasser". Tasha King 2000- 06-04. "Personality types", Jody Huarts "What counselling theory did Reality Therapy originate from" Suzanne Mundy. "Using Reality Therapy choice theory" Tara Paras. The last referernce may be particularly helpful. To a large extent Choice Theory can be seen as a reaction to Freudian Psychoanalytical theory. The concept of 'Total Behaviour' is arguably choice theory's most important contribution to the study of the functioning of human behaviour.

I have just noticed that there is an article on the main WGI web page that answers many of the questions you pose. It is the 'Corey with Kathy' article
