Seen Matrix Reloaded yet?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

We went to the 11:00 *AM* movie today. I really enjoyed myself, and although the concept wasn't as novel as the first Matrix (cuz we all kind of get some of it now), I really liked it. The love story between Neo and Trinity is very touching, not to mention pretty erotic (lot of dancing and drums, too)! The car chase and endless kung-fu stuff was acceptable (cinematically thrilling I guess).

Anyone else see it? Didja like it?

See any other movies yet? I'm wanting to see Pirates of the Caribbean (mostly for Orlando Bloom and Brad Pit, truth be told). But then, I like old Errol Flynn movies, too... hey my dad was a ringer for ol' Errol! Yikes. Is this some Freudian thing? 8-).

Summer (and the stupidest of movie seasons) is upon us. Let's hope there's some fun to be had!

Yours, though I've never been much of a movie goer,

We were going to see it on Sunday but we ended up going to a cookout at Keith's sister's house instead. We'll probably go this weekend instead.

I have a Trinity action figure on my desk at work. Also Agent Scully (X-files), Qui-Gon Jinn(Star Wars Episode I), Buttercup (Powerpuff Girls)and Catbert. And a giant rubber rat left over from Halloween.... :)

I haven't see The Matrix Reloaded, because I haven't seen The Matrix. Julie is on her way down here, so maybe we'll go . . . if I can rent and view the first one ahead of time. I think I'd otherwise be so confused I might as well not be watching Reloaded.

I tried watching the Matrix twice, fell asleep both times! I seem to have a kink in my wiring somewhere when it comes to action films; they bore me to death! And make me dizzy. I really wanted to like it cuz everybody is always talking about all the philosophy surrounding it, but I'll just hafta live without. Bren and Ali have already seen "reloaded" twice. Sigh.

My son begged me when it first came out. His friends were surprised he went to see it with me because of the "sex" scene (had to hold myself back from covering his eyes) I think Trinity is ugly for the starring role. The next one is coming out in November.

I want to see the Pirates too and also the new movie with Sean Connery. Not another James Bond but another adventure with Dr Jekyle and invisible man. Looked good. There was coming attractions for another movie but I can't remember what it was. Have to ask Gary. Oh, I remember, the Terminator. It's how it all started with the machines and John Connell being grown and starting to lead. Looked really good.

Hey, how are your movie theaters? Mine is always sooo cold. I bring a jacket even in the summer. At least they went back to popping the corn. That prebagged stuff was the worst.

I saw matrix the first and wasn't too impressed. I'm kinda like EM with action flicks. If there was philosophy there I didn't get it. Besides, I'm not a big Keanu Reeves fan. He seems so "vacant" and disconnected to his lines to me.

We very rarely see first run movies and wait till they come out on video. Even worse, we wait till they go into the "old release" mode so they're 3 days, 3 movies, 3 $. Did I mention, I'm a really cheap guy?

But, since Sheepish is a Brad Pitt fan, we just rented "Fight Club" with Brad and Edward Norton. I really like Ed Norton (The Rounders with him and Matt Damon, The Score with him and Robert DiNiro). I didn't much care for it at first but after a while grew to appreciate the movie. Also just saw "Monsters Ball" which I thought was good. We generally do the 3 day rental thing on the weekends.

We saw Moulin Rouge a while back and initially thot it was pretty wierd but really liked it after a while. Also, Shakespeare In Love was good too.

John, I loved the sets in Moulin Rouge, but I didn't really like the film. I like Chicago, otoh. Mr. S. really liked Chicago (he though Renee Z. was so hot...shows you what *I* know. I would have thought he would have liked Catherine Z-J... guess *I* identified more with CZ-J...)!

Carie-Anne Moss isn't exactly beautiful, but she did show a softer side in the Reloaded pic. Yeah, Keanu isn't really a tour-de-force in terms of his breadth of acting! But he's good at this quiet stuff.

I could probably make about $1.75 if I had a nickel for every movie I've ever seen in a theater (and that's over 50+ years now!). I'm usually pretty cheap when it comes to spending money on entertainment (we don't have cable or satellite teevee; go to sports events only when someone else has extra tickets, etc.). But lately, I guess to get my mind off things, movies seem like cheap thrills. Our matinees go for $5.50 each, and while not exactly 5 days for $3.00 (video rentals), $11 is much cheaper than dinner and drinks and dessert ($70+). Definitely can't afford the latter!

I bought the "big" version of The Matrix (VHS) (original one) for, I think, less than $5 at a used video store. I probably watched it a dozen times. Guess it's now a cult thing for me. When Mr. S. went into surgery I said: Remember, "there is no spoon." So of course, this new movie is interesting to me! EM, you have to watch it more than once, maybe. And maybe (like any art/symbol) it's only interesting to some parts of the viewer population, anyway. Since I used to work with computers, etc., the hacker part and the mainframe stuff seems fun.

Any movies anyone DOESN'T want to see? Based on trailers, there must be a million coming up!

OOh, that's an easy question to answer. The one movie I really don't want to see is "Bruce Almighty". I cannot stand Jim Carey, he ruined the Grinch!

The new Sean Connery movie coming out is "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". It's another movie based on a comic book. The problem with Sean Connery in these types of movies is that they tend to either be very good (the first Highlander movie) or very bad (the Avengers remake with Uma Thurmon). I really hope this is one of the good ones, I love Sean Connery!

Yikes, I love Jim Carey (hides)........havent seen his new one but bren and ali did and said it was excellent. I especially liked "liar liar" "truman show."

sheepish, how can i watch Matrix twice when I cannot even stay awake ONCE? :) When I said I fell asleep, I meant literally. Twice. Boring.

Ali loves Keanu; she fully admits it's for eye-candy value, and is unmerciful with her teasing of his unremarkable acting talents, but can sit and watch him all day anyway.

As far as movies I don't want to see, it usually is the majority of em, since most of em are full of violence and profanity. I is such a fogey. :)

Waiting for it and bruce almighty to come out on DVD to add to my library.

Julie came and Julie went -- never did go to the theater. We did watch Aliens (for the umpteenth time) in widescreen. Seventeen added minutes -- whoopee, shoulda left them out!

Oh, and Sheepish, if you expect to see Brad Pitt in Pirates, you will be disappointed! JOHNNY DEPP and Orlando Bloom -- no Brad. Pirates of the Caribbean was my favorite ride at DisWorld years ago, so between that and Orlando Bloom, yeah, I think I'll be going. I kinda like Johnny Depp too, though not enough to see a movie just because he's in it. As for Brad, I believe he will be in some version of the Trojan Wars/Helen of Troy movie, perhaps later this year.

And I'm planning on going to see "Hidalgo", which may be released under "Ocean of Fire" or even some other name. It's based on the true story of Frank Hopkins (I think that's the name), a Pony Express rider turned Wild West Show performer. He took his horse, Hidalgo, and entered an Arabian horse race, Ocean of Fire, and that's what this story is about. I have no idea if he won or not, don't want to know. But no one expected him to be able to even adequately compete - - I guess no one thought his mustang could keep up with the desert- bred horses. The movie has the added attractions of starring Viggo Mortensen as Frank, and Omar Sharif has a supporting role. :-D

I am not much of a Jim Carrey fan myself . . . I don't think I've ever seen an entire movie with him in it, just snatches. Which were enough to discourage me! And speaking of movies I DON'T want to see - - Dumber and Dumberer. WHY make that movie? Yuck!

Oh I adore Johnny Depp!! I think I've seen all his movies, except for one that was supposed to be especially violent.......can't member what it was.......I can always depend on his movies to be wonderfully quirky, and I think he's gorgeous, especially in "chocolate', which I loved.

OH yeah, it was Johnny Depp. I remember now. I liked him in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!

Wow. A horse movie with Viggo Mortensen in it sounds worth seeing.

The Seattle International Film Festival is on (or else just finished). I read a lot of reviews in the paper. Some amazing films never seem to make it to the 12-plex out here, that's for sure.

My favorite Johnny Depp movie was 'What's eating Gilbert Grape?' - I thought he was outstanding.

He does lots of quirky roles, quite a few of them have really dark undertones. He played a Scotland yard detective who was an opium addict last / two years ago. Also another movie where he found the gateway to hell (yeah, there is something I've always wanted to do - find the gateway to eternal damnation!).

That Pirates of the Carribean does promise to have some good special effects - I want to see it too.
