Invader Zim is one of the best Cartoons of all Time! (not an Anime though)

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2003

I truely think that Invader Zim and the Powerpuff Girls are cartoons because one: anime are considered because they are made in Japan and two: anime eyes are drawn with beautiful eyes and not drawn with dots to present eyeballs. I do think I answer your question, although one of the response was unappropriate.

Invader Zim rocks! Though, I beg to differ about the Power Puff Girls... I agree that they are not "anime." The answer above mine is well said.

-- Anonymous, May 29, 2003

I have seen Powerpuff Girls and only ONE episode of Invader Zim and I can safely say, they are NOT anime. Cartoons made in America, yes. Anime, no. Hope that helps.

Invader zim is a US Cartoon and the Powerpuff actually originated as an anime but due to low ratings in Japan (i think) they continued to make it in the US.

lol good! i was like nooooo they cant be anime...anime is too pretty lol and though i like invader zim powerpuff bugs me.....yay i just got a new tenchi dvd *victory dance* ok that was totally of the topic

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2003

The inspector gadget cartoon sort of looks like anime but isn't.

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2003

no they are not. Even tho i love Invader ZIM with all my life but it is made by some guy who make weird comics. I buy mine at HOT TOPIC. I hate PPG.

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2003

Invader Zim rules!!!! But I have to admit, it is not Anime.*sniffles, cries* why!why!why!*suddenly stops, looks around, sweatdrops, and rushes to her sketch pad to draw Anime Invade Zim* Oh, and no PG is also not considered Anime.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2003

I'm not sure if Powerpuff Girls is an anime but there is a japanese version.

-- Anonymous, June 13, 2003

Totally spies is a CHEAP RIP-OFF of anime! I mean, the characters are bitches, and all they care about is 'Does this come in another color?'

-- Anonymous, June 30, 2003

none of these cartoons are anime.Right now invader zim doesnt come on anymore!!!And i barely see the PPG's on nowadays....

-- Anonymous, July 09, 2003

Totaly spies is not an anime neither is the powerpuffgirls invaderzim. And powerpuffgirls was neva an anime who ever wanted to jump on the bandwagon had started that retarded rumar...

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2003

i think that jhonen vasquez(the creator of invader zim) was tring to copy the style but no its american not anime....powerpuff girls...HELL NO!!!and same with totaly spies...its a bad copy of anime but not the real thing...tho i like invader zim~sighs~GRR is soooo cute^-^

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2003

yeah, whatever, vasquez wasn't copying any styles. If you've read any of his comics, a lot of people may have been influenced but no way invader zim was copying any style. Give him some credit.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2003

hey i wasn't bad mouthing him! inzader zim is about the only american cartoon i'll watch^-^

-- Anonymous, July 21, 2003

Powerpuff girls was produced by Craig McCraken in collaboration with Gennedy Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack. If you've watched Dexter's Lab (the first two seasons before the character change), you'd see that he likes to make fun of anime and can draw in that style. Both producers are American, it's an american cartoon. But I cannot explain the lip-out of syncing for totally spies.

-- Anonymous, July 22, 2003

powerpuff girls? anime? o_o;;; how could you even think that? invader zim, though it is a neat cartoon for something made in america, its not anime either.

-- Anonymous, August 04, 2003

Actually they are anime, but they would be what I call 'kids anime'. Like Pokemon, they're not sufficent enough to satisfy the anime needs of teens and adults; however, it's good enough to entertain children. Um, that means that if you think those are 'cool' and you're over the age of 14, you're pretty childish.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2003

NO.How could anyone think they are? Anime MUST be made in Japan or in some other JAPANESE context. Any American "Anime" is a cartoon.

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2003

And Also..Zim is not childish...It works on many levels...but I do agree that it is watered down a bit...But thats Nickelodeon for you

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2003

There is no way not even close but invader Zim is funny when not on tv because they curse and stuff and all the other thing like it made by the same guy *i hate power puff girl they must be killed*

-- Anonymous, September 01, 2003

I read the magazene "anime insider" and it explains that no, powerpuff girls may look like anime but there not. As for invader zim i have no idea and frankly that show freaks me out, lol :p

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2003

hmm....Well that is weird I mean Powerpuff girls is not and never will be and Anime I mean look at the people they are all like shapes and other types of poorly drawn cartoons... I do enjoy Invader Zim and I don't care if it's an Anime or not WE ALL LOVE ZIM! and who ever doesn't must be killed.... And as for the powerpuff girls creators: STOP TRYING SO FREAKING HARD IN TRYING TO DRAW AN ANIME CAUSE YOU ARE DOING A BAD JOB!!!! -_- I rest my case.... whoopa...

I miss my Cupcake... and I miss Invader Zim....

OH AND ONE FINAL THING! That retarded show "My Life as a Teenage Robot" is a disgrace I MEAN IT TOOK ZIM'S PLACE!!! (example: Well every fridays in Nick Invader Zim always showed new episode.. Well in the beginning of the New Premiers show called "Friday Night Nicktoons" we see our friend ZIM sitting there in a bench eating a sandwich until Helga (from Hey Arnold) made him fly from the bench crash into a switch and get electricuted and that was it... But Last, last week I saw that this Robot girl(from My Life as a Teenage Robot) TOOK ZIM'S BENCH!!!!!!!! I GOT SO ANGRY I CHANGED THE CHANNEL!!! ....That will be all thank you all for letting me join this thingie... bye...

well, it seems about, gee, 7 percent of the people on this thread actually answered the question in an intelligent manner, so here's my 1.99999999 cents as well--i'm not quite sure where those rumors originated, but "invader zim" and "the powerpuff girls" (two of the best modern animated shows ever to air on television, in my opinion) are not anime. they are american cartoons, and the only reasons i can think of that may have started the rumor that they are anime shows are these:

1) someone spotted an asian name in the credits and immediately assumed the shows originated in japan. the character/set designs/backgrounds/storyboards are done in the united states, once that step is done the material is sent (usually) to an asian country- -in these cases, korea--to be animated, so those aren't even japanese names in the credits. that's one.

2) both shows are heavy on a generally simple character design/style, with most of the more "elaborate" animation taking place in action scenes (as is typical in the majority of anime, where the busy scenes get more attention from the animators). both cartoons are the brainchildren of jhonen vasquez and craig mccracken (respectively) alone, though mccracken has indicated that when creating an episode of "the powerpuff girls," the animators study all sorts of different material, anime being one of them, particularly for the action scenes. i don't doubt that vasquez and his team working on "invader zim" did the same. however, the huge, exaggerated eyes of both shows are due to their respective styles-- craig mccracken designed the powerpuff girls when he was in college, and jhonen vasquez's characters typically have large eyes, as they did in his comic books.

there. hopefully this answer was thorough enough to dispense any of those illegitimate rumors you've been subjected to in the past. and to a majority of the people who've posted replies on this thread: i'm sure everyone who asks a question would appreciate an intelligent answer most of the time, but maybe that's just me.
