What was the most popular nightclub or jazz club in the 1910s and 1920s?

I am also interested in historical records, names, addresses, and any historical websites, documents or books that have info on historical SF and entertainment. I am looking for info on theaters and vaudville in SF during the 1910s and 1920s.

I am also looking for info on muesums and other romantic oriented places that someone in 1910s would court woman from a rich family in SF. Such as the equalilant of carriage ride in central park in NY , what would be the equal in SF in the 1910s?

Well let's just look at 1911.

Jose Theater 1911 Market St 2362 Mowry's Opera 1911 Grove St 99 Pantages Theater 1911 Market St 1182 Potrero Opera House 1911 Tennessee St 627 Puckett Academy of Dance 1911 Sutter St 1268 Purcell's Jazz Club 1911 Columbus Av (*Montgomery Av) 100 Spider Kelly's 1911 Pacific Av 570 Tadich Grill 1911 Montgomery St 601

The Jose Theater and the Potrero Opera House would be a place for working people to have a night out.

Mowry's, Pantages and the Pucket Academy would be middle class and Swells.

Spider Kelly and the Purcell's would definitely be for the Avant Garde. These places had earluy Jazz and were somewhat intergrated.

The Tadich Grill would impress any date.

Good Luck in your research.
