What is real-time Non-linear editing. If Iam using a firewire port & cable(i-link) to capture a DV film from my DV cam and save the file as AVI using a capture software like ulead Video studio or capturing it with Vegas 4.0 and then do my editing with the same (vegas4.0) software. Do I make it as real-time Non-linear editing. How can you know if its real-time. As of the moment, while i'm doing my basic editing thru vegas 4.0 I can already preview the crossfades between clips using the preview window (haven't tried it yet using external monitor like TV). Is this what you mean by real-time editing. Does this real-time still needs rendering?

I have not heard of real-time non linear editing before. But have heard about (and am doing these): 1) Non linear video editing: technique to edit the video without having to go thru the video sequentially (as with old days video tape editing). 2) Real-time encoding: encode video as fast as playing/capturing it. This coule be done with either hardware or software.
