Whenever you add, delet, and move a lot of files around, you should "defrag" your computer. This basically reorganizes the hard drive so that it will run more smoothly [getting rid of those little backup things you mentioned], etc; its performance will be better.

In any Windows OS, go to the Start Menu, then Programs, Accessories and then System Tools. In that System Tools folder, you will find an application called "Disk Defragmentor." Click it. Before you start defragmenting, however make sure that all other running applications are first closed. This way it will not be interrupted.

Also, depending on how often you defrag and how many files you have been moving, it may take 30 minutes or all night. This should help with the problem you stated above.

I do NOT recommend using the "Disk Cleanup" application because it will delete anything that it deems trash. What it deleted may actually be something important to you.

Hope this helps!!!

Here's the best answer of all time... ... don't use windows.

either that, or save it to removable media directly (ie external harddrive, zip disks, etc.)
