would i be eligible for an annulment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am currently a divorced methodist woman that wishes to convert to catholism, and eventually remarry in the Catholic Church. I was married in a methodist church to a person who turned out to be against the trinity and everything God does. He was even against me getting our daughter baptised. At the time of the marriage, he appeared to be a believer. He was never baptised. Our marriage ended eight months after the ceremony due to that he cheated on me with various women (within a week of being married, i received phone calls about one of his mistresses), was abusive, and was not the person that I thought that I was marrying. I am wondering if this would be grounds for annullment. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Dear Methodist on the "journey home,"
I wish you a warm welcome to the Catholic Church.

You are unlikely to experience any difficulties -- particularly in view of the circumstance of the man's non-Christian status and his interference in your religious life.
Please make an appointment to visit the pastor of the closest Catholic parish. When you explain everything to him, he will help you to move forward, both with your intention to become a convert and with your wish to obtain a declaration of nullity, a formal certification that you have never been validly married.

God bless you.
John
