Greetings to All..

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

This isn't a question, but to say 'hi' to all, how faithful you are John, Paul, Gail, Eugene,Skoob, it's good to 'hear' you.

Jacob {Huether, my son} got married last month. It was a glorious wedding. The church is old and has all the saints there, and they presented our Lady with flowers. The Mass was beautiful and powerful as always, the music anointed, and God's love flowed amongst the people.

We are so blessed, blessed to be a part of God's plan. Part of Jesus' Church. He truly has provided for us, with all we need. Sometimes, in a quiet moment with the Lord, my heart is just full of gratitude, it's hard to take it all in, isn't it? How He provides for us to live victorious lives. He has truly robbed the devil of his power over us. We can go to confession and Communion and be set free.. all in a matter of hours!!! He's there with new joy and fervor every morning, he is the one who keeps our marriages together with His humility and forgiveness. He is the one who lavishes His mercy on us, for it isn't about us, it's all about Him, and His grace and mercy. He is the one who empowers us so our words speak freedom and healing, and break shackles off peoples' backs! oh hallelujah!

So I guess this is a word of encouragement, you fight the good fight, you do it in the Name of Jesus, you may not see the fruit of your work, but you do it for Him, and He finishes it. His word will never come back void. You guys are doing a good job!

I was telling Gail I just don't seem to have the hours I did before for the forum, and Jake's gone over to phatmass, glory to God.. he's growing in the Lord and God is blessing him and his new wife, Erika. But I cherish the memories of Jake and me siting here at the computer preparing arguments, researching and pondering. It was a great bonding and growing period. We'd be sitting in his bedroom late at night talking about 'holding hands at the our Father', {John!!!}, and we'd be up early laughing about how we thought of some new way of looking at something through the night to share. We grieved over Fred's death together. My husband, a faithful strong Catholic Christian never could understand it when we'd call you each by name as if we knew you so personally. But we did, didn't we!

So, my dear brothers and sisters, I pray for you, would you pray for us! Peace of Jesus!! Theresa

Oh Ms. Theresa, I have missed your sweet words so much! I ever so grateful to know you. You are such a dear. I am so glad to hear of Jake's blessed wedding. Do you have pictures? We would love to see them.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. We need them. And we need you. I hope you plan on posting again. There's too much testosterone around here! (No offense guys!)

Pax Christi,

Gail

Hi ladies :-).

"It was a great bonding and growing period."

It really was a special time Theresa, full of chrachters and a variety of Catholics we were a diverse group.

Theresa congratulations to Jake and his new wife. What a blessing.I too would like to thank you all for your help with me in rediscovering truth. I certainly was not an easy person to deal with at times, special thanks to Chris Butler who was an inspiration.

I have however never really been on the same level as many of you in regard to the place of the authority of the church in our moral decisions. It is something I have spent many many months reading on and believe I have informed my conscience. The forum continues the fight for legalism and the rule of law, a blind faith which I cannot in good conscience accept. I feel such a negative approach to the world around me and of others was not Christian in the sense I believe in. I was turning into a pharisee, I look back at some of my posts and cringe, yuk.

Without wanting to distance myself too much from my brothers and sisters in Christ here, I reject some elements of Church teaching of natural law as being badly in need of change given developments in understanding of science, medicine, philosophy and theology. Yet the Graceo Roman understanding of the the world around them and mankind of two thousand years ago is still the basis for many of our moral teachings.

Reading through some of the responses to genuine questions can we really believe that God who so loved the world as to give us his only Son actually deals with us in these terms? Is this what Jesus would have wanted? Does God have no regard for our quality of life and only cares about the salvation of our soul? etc etc

Rest assured I will always be fighting in the corner for our Church although from a different angle than most of you.

Love and only love and all that.

Peace and Love

Kiwi, I was just getting ready to post a thread "Where the heck is Kiwi," but now you've popped in! You must have read my mind. I miss you very much, Kiwi. I hope you're not going to abandon us here, are you? It sounds like you and Ms. Theresa are going to take a sabbatical. Did I miss something? Did you write an "exit post" or something?

Love to all,

Gail

Kiwi:

"I reject some elements of Church teaching of natural law as being badly in need of change given developments in understanding of science, medicine, philosophy and theology."

This is a very simple problem to fix.

For starters, become a Platonist and read the works of St. Augustine. I find that when approaching these difficult questions, that banging my head a few times against a brick wall puts me into the proper disposition. This may or may not work for you. =)

Point being, get the modern world out of your head when you approach the things that are eternal and of the essence; it will blind you.

Hi Gail, no I could never leave you guys,Ill always be lurking around, thanks for thinking of me though. You, Theresa and Mary Lu have always been so thoughtful. To be honest I think I was a bit depressed or something over the past year and I turned to the forum for interaction. Life is far too short to spend all my spare hours on the internet, and besides its just not healthy: spiritually, emotionally or physiacally to do so IMHO. Everything in moderation! God Bless

Hi Emerald

I trust you and your family are well bud. While not well versed I am certainly aware of the basic tennets of Platonists and St Augstine. To me its not a case of rejecting modern philosophy and science as irrelevant to the truth as they draw on the truths of such ancient thinking while also drawing on 2000 years of human wisdom in dissmissing the obvious problems and limitiations with such an approach. You talk of blindness but to me only a blind person could not see the faults in AUgustines thoughts. While acknowling the huge debt we owe to him, (to me his highly positive evaluation of the human heart especially) we need to read his thoughts in the context of a man from an ancient world. A man whose mind and culture were shaped by the literature and philosophy of Greece and Rome. Back to bashing my head against a brick wall! Ill get there eventually...God Bless :-)

Finally ??????, Im guessing Atila! Seeing as he is the only South American contributor who springs to mind. Yes we lost to Japan 3- 0 as well. :-) Luckily no one cares about soccer in this part of the world, bunch of big girls blouses, the lot of them!. Joking but bring on the rugby world cup. Go the All Blacks!

"You cannot wield it. None of us can. The ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master."

You know what the ring of power represents? The Human Will, and the resulting I will serve vs. I will not serve struggle. The quest is about getting rid of something instead of attaining it; in others words, abandonment of self will in preference to the will of God. Tolkien was no idiot.

Oh... they have some special thingy that blocks it I guess.

Case in point...

"I will serve vs. I will not serve"

I hear you and know what youre saying. Ill try, thanks Emerald.

BTW Atila the ALl Balcks beat the Welsh by 55 -3 :-) !Bring on the French next week.

I wonder if the rugby channel, SKY sports and ESPN will be in heaven, not that Im thinking of dying anytime soon I hope, but we must prepare ourselves for such an eventuality. LOL

mmmmmmmmm. Gail's comment about the 'too much you know what' around here seems to be true!!! naw, but seriously it is good to hear you Kiwi and Emerald! Kiwi, when I find myself in a conflict I just truly 'give it to the Lord', I know that sounds so cliche-ish, but what else can we do? We certainly don't have all the answers. God reveals to us what we need at the time. These inner conflicts make good kindling for a sweet offering to God. Hey isn't St. Paul speaking to us this week about "boasting of our weakness"?!!! The longer I walk with Him the more I see how much I DO NOT KNOW. Chris Butler would agree that this is a pretty healthy disposition. For in our weakness is HIS STRENGTH. How hard it is for us to just sustain our weak condition, and glory in all His power and knowledge. He's God, not us after all!

Lately I've been hearing alot about a significant need for miraculous trust. Trust. Living by faith. Oh my gosh we will be crushed if we live by what we see. That wonderful chapter in second Corin. 4 about the paradox of the ministry. "We hold this treasure in earthen vessels...always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our body." And that wonderful declaration "Therefore we are not discouraged;...for this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look NOT TO WHAT IS SEEN BUT TO WHAT IS UNSEEN; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal".

When it all gets too much it's back to the basics, "What are you saying about me amongst Yourselves, blessed Trinity, what would you have me do right now, what do I need to change? I give you my life". What else can we do? He is faithful to restore my peace and sanity. Today this is a moment, a Kairos moment, if you will, there is no time to waste, we'll miss God's opportunity as He wants to heal the world. I'ts one moment at a time, am I ready to be used to give His love away? My good friend Linda Schubert says it simply, God tells us "You take care of My business, and I'll take care of yours".

Do I trust Him to take care of my business? Do I know He can use me even while I'm in a funk, me, after all, who bears His Body, sacramentally, physically in my very being. We, who change the atmosphere by walking into a room, not by a word but by His Presence?

Oh Lord give us miraculous trust so we can live in joy today, and be giant love-balls to burn up the world with that fire You Yourself said You desired to be ignited right now!

Hey Gail, anyone, where's MaryLu? love,Theresa

Jmj

Hello, Mrs. Huether!
Please pay no attention to Miss Attwood. If the forum has changed, it has changed for the better, and you will always be welcome here (even if you do hold hands).

I want to give my hearty congratulations to your son, Mr. J. Huether, for gaining a "partner for life," and to you for gaining a "daughter."

God bless you.
John PS: I hope that the way I have worded this message pleased your husband, Theresa. Well, at least until this "PS".
