Donna,

I would check first with the Credit Reference Agencies such as Experian and Equifax, I think there is another perhaps someone else can tell you. It normally costs £2 and you need to provide proof of ID and previous home addresses. Given the fact that you cleared this debt straight away I don't see why it should be on file, and if it is, you should ask for it to be removed. I would also check the CML Possessions Register. Once you've done this and you get the all clear, go ahead. Good Luck.

Mark.

If there had been a mortgage shortfall or a money judgement in respect of a mortgage shortfall it would be registered with the Council of Mortgage Lenders for 6 years after which time it is automatically removed. You will be asked as a matter of course about any prior mortgage to which you should answer honestly for fear of obtaining the mortgage by deception.

Make sure your credit files (both of you) are OK before you allow anyone to do a credit check on you. Ask the potential mortgage lender if you, in principle, fit their criteria BEFORE you allow them to credit check you.

I understand that too many credit checks over a short period of time will flag up as potential risk. This is not something that you would see on your own file but i do know of a cse where it happened.

Hope this helps and Good Luck

Jane
