I have heard about all the gossip about that the music companies are trying to sue Kazaa, WinMX, and other file sharing programs. I just want to know the update on that because I am curious about if they are going to make downloading files on the internet and file sharing programs, like Kazaa illegal or not? Let me know the update on that.

Kazaa and Winmx are illegal its just they can't stop it because to stop kazaa and winmx you would have to delete it of everybodys computer in the world and there are hundreds of millions of people out there that have kazaa and winmx which would make it impossible to trace them all and then delete it off their coomputers.

Kazaa is used for illegal activities which infringe the Copyright Act, the Digital Millennuim Copyright Act, etc. That is why its being sued. Napster got fucked and theres a good chance Kazaa will too. But its all good. As soon as one P2P is shutdown, ten more pop up and they get harder to shut down.

Oh and I think recording a tape of the radio is illegal. I'm pretty sure it is just like recording a TV show if the tape is not erased or desposed off after a certain time limit. Just like u r suppossed to delete any ROMs after 24 hrs. that have been downloaded that u don't own.

Copyright Law on intellectual property is very confusing!!!

i agree with bean machine about the recording from radio and from tv i think its just the same as getting a movie or music from the net but however...you do know the 24hr rule is fake there is no such rule, having the rom/or any other copyrighted material is just as illegal for 1min to several days, as soon as its downloaded or uploaded its illegal

First off, just like marijuana eradication, it is "selectively enforced." In California, pot growers go unimpeded prosucetorily because the state doesn't give a crud about medicinal pot users, but the feds do. So the Feds try to eradicate, the state does little to support them. To a degree, the same goes with P2P. Right now P2P is only federally (IF THAT) recognized and is not even CLOSE to becoming state law. Case law is the only thing that exists right now, and the ONLY case is NAPSTER (a centrally hosted server). Jurisdictionally who's going to prosecute you? Your local District Attorney? NOT... they will be busy prosecuting dope dealers and robbers. So there has to be a Federal task force large enough to handle millions of cases, AND technologically savvy to track you down. In the grand scheme of national security and international politics, it's WAY WAY down the line in the grand scheme of priorities. It's all media hype to get us paranoid. P2P on young bucks! And let the recording industry melt!

I have been downloading off P2Ps since like Napster began cuz I love music but the fucking RIAA wants too much for music, god damn sons of bitches. $20 for a CD when the artist only gets from .50 to 2 dollars for each CD and the production of a CD is only about 2 to 3 dollars. They said that they would SOMEHOW start suing the individual users who download or share the illegal files but that is BS. My friend actually got a warning by mail because she was downloading a lot of mp3's but that was because her internet usage was being monitered at school (college dorm).

I wouldn't stop. Let them try to sue all of us. Once they decide to bring cd prices down, we'll think about it.

I need to stop posting as tomorrows angel. Anyway, I've read up on it. According to what I've read only the people sharing large amounts of American MP3S will be hunted down and shot, so far.:D It doesen't matter if you download a lot, If you share Japanese ones, or even if you just share a few American ones, you can even download a lot and take them out of your shared folder. Shouldn't effect us anime-ers. Personally, I only downloaded a few American Mp3s. mostly MSI.

OK, heres the thing. Downloading COPYRIGHTED music is ILLEGAL unless the author gives people permission (example, a college band that is trying to get their music out there). It is the same as recording from the TV or radio UNLESS you are recording it to watch/listen to it at a later date. You are NOT permitted to "publicly display" the media, and that includes "lending", "giving", or selling it. You may make a backup copy of any media you have PURCHASED, so long as you use it only as a backup. Next time you rent a movie, pause it at the FBI warning and read it. That will give you more info. The FBI or the author CAN presecute ANYBODY that downloads even one file illegaly. This is done through the municipal government (The anti-piracy act, EVERY SINGLE STATE HAS ONE). Will they? Who knows, but what if they choose YOU to make an example out of. They may not win, but you'll have to spend a LOT of money on a good laywer to get your butt off. Basically, the bottom line is (and there are, of course, exceptions to this) if you download something you would normally have to buy (including, but not limited to music, videos *YES that includes porn, unless it's homemade AND the author wants it shared* , software, or text files), then it is probably illegal. I will share one last thought, (I learned this from a friend years ago) "It's only illegal if you get caught".

You people need to realize something...use kazaa lite. They block the RIAA and other scans. Also if you want to feel realllly secure just adjust the destination folder to your burner drive or external HD USB like i have. They can only track what is on the internal HD of your comp not what you have externally be it a HD or CDR. I have a hacker at work who I know and thats what he said. I mean if you been doing this hacking/programing for 6 years i would trust him. I am sure more such softwares will evolve and they will have secure features for not getting caught.:-) Here is one - How to not get caught downloading from Kazaa.? Download Kazaa Lite 2.1.0. Delete your old kazaa through add/remove. After installing, go to Options-More Options and check prevent other users from getting a list of all your files. You will still be able to share your files, but people cant see an entire list of the files you are sharing! I heard that authorities cant trace mp3's of a certain sort, is this true? So once we get all of our songs out of our shared folder they cant trace you once you erase it. Correct or Not? I downloaded kazaa and winmx and the two or illegal and they send viruses like: 1.the box that counts from 60 to 1 and your computer turrns off. 2.Computer speed will slow down and any file it offers you to download without even searching for it, it will be a viruses.
