What other things do you stock for winter besides garden produce.

I was wondering how much of a supply of food , other than our garden things we grow, that everyone tries to have a stock of. I mean anything that we would need in a certain period of time. I try in the fall to have at least enough stocked to make it through the winter months. And then I do the same in the spring. Of course there are some perishables that we buy each week . Lauraleah

Well, I really don't stock everything even through winter. I do keep a base supply, and I refill every two weeks. There are also quite a lot of perishable items I keep an extra supply of for winter. For instance I put several dozen eggs in the freezer for when the chickens let up. I also freeze some goats milk and keep it in the freezer. I keep a stock of flour, sugar, salt, and tea, nearly all the time. I am usually several months ahead on those. Mostly we eat off our place except perhaps for meat. I am producing meat, but still haven't managed to cut out our trips for it entirely. I am hoping to completely replace store bought meat soon with homegrown meat. We do keep a stock of water, toilet paper, paper towels, and medical supplies in the cellar.

We stock everything to get through the winter months. In the fall we stock enough feed to get through until spring and all that we feel we will need for ourselves.

Here is an interesting food storage plan. The numbers to the right are ordered according the list of people above it in each section.I hope it stays in this format.

Learn how to use the basic foods. Plan to use them on a regular basis so that favorite recipes can be tested and incorporated into your menu. A broad variety of items is normally better for your overall health than just a few select items.

A prolonged diet of these foods by themselves may result in nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamins A and C. However such a diet should sustain life for at least 1 year. Ideally, other foods should be included in your storage program to fill the nutritional groups.

Fruits and vegetables in any form would enhance the nutritional value of this diet."

our church teaches us that we should keep a year's supply--of all essentials. We have always made an effort to do this, although right now we are quite lacking, since we have been unemployed since before the move(right at a year). We haven't, however, been hurting yet, because of what we had put back, both in supplies and savings.

mary, Tx ,, is there a website or some type of directory for your group? I have always wanted to meet your group,,,not for religious purposes, but for the one year supply needs.

Yes, Stan, go to LDS.org and click on Provident Living.
