Let's "hope" for heaven, rather than for purgatory. Purgatory is something to accept with joy and gratitude if it is our lot -- but if we "hope" for it, it means that we don't fully will to let go of our sins.

Your site estimates that there have been 106 billion people. I suspect that this number may be inflated by a factor of ten. No one can say for sure, but I suspect that demongraphers might estimate that there have been 10 billion people.

Still, your purpose is a noble one -- praying for the poor souls -- one in which every Christian should join.

I agree that it is probably inflated, however according to the US Census folks, this is the best estimate they have. they calculate from about 8000BC which is a little earlier than I would like, but I'd far rather say one prayer too many than one too few.

As far as heaven or purgatory .... I do not presume that I will go straight to heaven. Through God's great Love and Mercy I hope to be there at some future point, but I think too many assume that it is a forgone conclusion.

Don't get me wrong, Steve. I wasn't recommending that anyone should "presume" that they will go to heaven -- but only that they should "hope" to go there (rather than "hope" to go to purgatory).

My take on it is that if indeed I do make it safely to purgatory (rather than hell) then I know that I will definately be in Heaven with Our Lord some time.
