Luminous Mysteries -- any ideas?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Any ideas on a good method to say the luminous mysteries? Something like St. Louis de Montfort's methods. Here's an example of his method for the first joyful mystery the annunciation.

Before the decade: We offer you, Lord Jesus, this first decade in honour of your Incarnation. Through this mystery and the intercession of your holy Mother we ask for humility of heart.

After the decade:May the grace of the mystery of the Incarnation come into me and make me truly humble.

Similarly, every mystery involves a request for a particular virtue. Of course the virtue is associated with the mystery. (Humility and the annunciation: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord!") Would be interested in seeing your ideas for the luminous mysteries. Could be along these or any other lines. If you're just interested in expressing an opinion on the luminous mysteries, this thread may be more appropriate.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking, but here is a link:

Thanks for the link, John Placette. I'm looking for standard intentions though associated with each decade (like annunciation->humility). Here's my own attempt. Christ's baptism

Before the decade: We offer thee, Lord Jesus, this first decade in honor of thy baptism in the river Jordan. Through this mystery and the intercession of thy holy Mother we ask for faithfulness to our Baptismal vows.. All powerful and merciful God, Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who freed me from sin and spiritual death, and gave me the new life of grace through water and the Holy Spirit, I renew my baptismal vows and rededicate my life to thy loving protection so that, day by day, I may grow in thy knowledge, love and service through Christ our Lord. [Michael Buckley's prayer book]

After the decade: Grace of the mystery of Christ's baptism, come down into our souls and truly renew our baptismal vows.

The Wedding at Cana

We offer thee, Lord Jesus, this second decade in honor of the miracle thou performed at the wedding in Cana . Through this mystery and the intercession of thy holy Mother we ask for blessings on our family.. I'm getting tired of the HTML tagging, so I'll just summarize for the rest. Third Mystery: Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven --> Pray for blessings on the Church. Lots of standard prayers available.

Fourth Mystery: The Transfiguration --> Pray for awareness of the presence of God O Lord my God,
teach my heart this day where and how to see you,
where and how to find you
(St. Anselm)

Fifth mystery: Institution of the Eucharist

Pray for greater faith in the real presence Seeing, touching, tasting are in thee deceived;
What says trusty hearing? That shall be believed;
What God's Son has told me, take for truth I do;
Truth Himself speaks truly or there's nothing true
(G.M.Hopkins)

That is a mess, HTML-wise. I'll try and type it up again more fully when I get a chance.

[Renewal of baptismal vows: Michael Buckley's prayer book]

After the decade: Grace of the mystery of Christ's baptism, come down into our souls and renew our loyalty to our baptismal vows.

The Wedding at Cana

Before the decade: We offer thee, Lord Jesus, this second decade in honor of the miracle thou performed at the wedding in Cana. Through this mystery and the intercession of thy holy Mother we ask for obedience. ["Do as He tells you"]

After decade: Grace of the mystery of the miracle at Cana, come down into our souls and make us obedient.

Third Mystery: Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven

Before the decade: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade, in honor of Thy Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven. Through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, we ask for the Kingdom of God in our lives. [... "The Kingdom of God is within you"]

After the decade: Grace of the mystery of the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, come into our hearts and make God our Ruler.

Fourth Mystery: The Transfiguration

Before the decade: We offer Thee, O Heavenly Father, this mystery, in honor of the Transfiguration of Thy Son, and we ask, through this mystery and the intercession of the BVM, for the Divine Presence in Our Lives.

O Lord my God,
teach my heart this day where and how to see you,
where and how to find you
(St. Anselm)

After the decade: Grace of the mystery of the Transfiguration, come down into our souls and make us aware of God's presence.

Fifth mystery: Institution of the Eucharist

Before the decade: We offer Thee, Lord Jesus, this mystery, in honor of Thy institution of the Eucharist. We ask, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, for faith in Thy real presence in the Eucharist..

O my Lord Jesus, I believe that you are as truly present in the holy sacrament, under the signs of bread and wine, as you were when dying upon a cross for the salvation of all mankind, or as you are now enthroned in glory at the right hand of the Father.

After the decade: Grace of the mystery of the First Eucharist, come down into our souls and give us faith in the real presence.

Can probably find a more appropriate virtue for the transfiguration.

St. Louis de Montfort's methods for the 15 decades are here.

for the fifth mystery: the Institution of the Eucharist, it could be 'food for our salvation'
