What is the Gospel?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

Note: No mention of baptism.

The thing is, there is Nothing You Can Do To Ever Pay For Your Sins. According to God's Word, Christ died for our sins and paid the debt in full. You need to trust in Christ alone, and not your works, or purgatory, or penances, or baptism. Salvation can only be reached by faith alone in Christ alone. (faith is not a work)

David quoted, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and stated "Note: No mention of baptism."

Note: There is also NO mention of HOW one is to OBEY the gospel. There is also NO mention of Repentance or Confession, both of which are required to be saved. Let David tell everyone here how they are to "obey the gospel" for without obedience to the gospel, many will be lost. (See 2 Thess. 1:7-9).

David wrote, "The thing is, there is Nothing You Can Do To Ever Pay For Your Sins. According to God's Word, Christ died for our sins and paid the debt in full."

David, you are mistaken for obeying the commandments of God does NOT cause one to PAY FOR THEIR SINS.

David wrote, "You need to trust in Christ alone, and not your works, or purgatory, or penances, or baptism."

Please note that David adds the words ALONE as most Protestants do and this doctrine (that one must trust in Christ alone) is NOT in the word of God. If so, please provide the passages which state this to be the case.

David wrote, "Salvation can only be reached by faith alone in Christ alone. (faith is not a work)"

WRONG!!! The word of God does NOT state that "Salvation can only be reached by FAITH ALONE in Christ ALONE". If this is indeed the case, David ought to be able to provide the passages which so state this to be true. If you reply David, please make sure that you include the words that you have ADDED in your Scriptural reply. (i.e. the word ALONE).

Faith is a WORK for John 6:29-30 says, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

Even the portion he quotes contains this little phrase: "IF ye keep in memory what I preached unto you." That little word "if" completing blows David's once saved, always saved, doctrine.

Gail

P.S. And Kevin is right, David, you should also list the commands of Christ as to discipleship. There are many. The Thompson Chain is a very good Reference Bible that lists numerous passages on all different subjects.

You are confusing Justification and Sanctification, that is what all cults do. We are justified by faith alone.

Ok Gail, tell me what can we do that will cause us to lose salvation? What can we do that can undo the Work Jesus did on the Cross? If there is anything we can do, then Jesus is a liar and will have to be re-crucified.

Fall into an unrepentent life of sin and rebellion against God.

Your church doesn't believe in eternal security, David, is your church a cult too?

"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Romans 10:4.....the Gospel is simply "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"...Salvation is a free gift to those who believe. One cannot 'undeserve' something that was given 'undeservedly' to start with. One cannot lose something by demerit that one has not gained by merit. The Bible is clear that sin has been dealt with but that service will be judged. Christ 'became sin' for us and paid for all sin, once for all, as the 'Saviour of all men'. Salvation cannot be 'lost' for we are 'kept by the power of God' and ETERNAL life that we HAVE when we believe cannot be 'eternal' if one can cause it to cease. I do not believe Jesus lied when He said "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." Therefore the Gospel is 'believe with all your heart and you shall be eternally saved'
