Connectional Meetings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Other than the Missionary Quadrennial, the General Confernce, and the Convos,is there a time when the Connectional Church meets just for the sake of worship and fellowship? For example, worship services, the dissemination of pertinentinformation to the connection regarding church growth and improvement and for fellowship among the congregants? Thanks.

In addition, there's the quadrennial Christian Education Congress and the bi-ennial Lay meetings, the annual (or is it semi-annual) Bishops Council, General Board, and other related meetings that usually take place at the same time. But I am not aware of any connectional gatherings "just for the same of worship and fellowship". Neither do I see the need for such as worship and fellowship is included in ALL the connectional meetings as an intergral part of the business program. Other items mentioned are (sometimes) sometimes disseminated via the church publications.

BTW, I wouldn't consider the Missionary Quadrennial as a meeting of the connectional church is the same sense as the GenCon and the Convos as it is basically limited to one organization within the church,a nd pretty much to one gender [yes, men may attend, but have no real part of the business aspect].

Worship is conducted by your local church.

Be Blessed

Worship should be part of all that we do in the name of the church. Some of the best services I have been to were at Annual Conferences and other meetings where we could gather and celebrate seeing each other again in God's house.

I think the connectional Church Growth and Evangelism Seminar probably comes the closet to being just about worship and fellowship. Morning Bible Studies are augmented by plenary and breakout sessions focusing on ways to bring people to God and on ways to enhance Christian living. The evening worship services are truly services of joy filled with spirit filled praise and worship (under the dynamic leadership of the Connectional Director of Music Rev. Sylvester Laudermill) and dynamic preaching. One night is even called a "Preach-a-thon" featuring some of the dynamic younger voices of our zion. It takes place every year in January.

Hi, Mary, my beautiful sister. Licentiate Danielle and I just got back from the Pacific Northwest annual conference. It was an incredible conference, filled with great preaching, bible study, information on what is happening in the larger connection, info on buying a house and great fellowship. Bishop Bryant is the most anointed man I have ever come into contact with. Every church reported financial and membership growth, new churches were planted. Dr. John Hunter the host pastor and first ame in seattle ran the conference smoothly and with love. But the highlight was Bishop Bryant and the way he conducted the conference with professionalism, love and empowerment, he is the type of Bishop that makes you want to work harder for he is very clear in letting us know we are working for God and God alone! He took time to compliment each pastor and church for the work we are doing and was fully aware of everything that was going on in our churches. He was so accessible, so to those that want our Bishop. The answer is no!!!!!!! The fifth district will be on our knees until we hear we are getting our great, and holy spirit Bishop back.

Thank you everyone who prayed for us as we drove to Seattle, the fires were bad. But we made it! All the Montana pastors made it safely to the conference. I am now an Elder. Yahoo! Proud to be AME.

I just want to say congratulation Rev. Rogers on your promotion. You make a good Presiding Elder. God Be The Glory.

God Bless,

My wonderful 5th district sister I am an ITINERANT ELDER. Not a Presiding Elder. In the AME church we have two ordinations. Itinerant deacon and Itinerant Elder. I am now the latter.

So what does it mean? It means I am even more on fire for the lord! Thank you for your good wishes and being my friend.

My predising elder is Rev. Donna Roberson and she is awesome!
