Ron:

I am attempting to determine the full name of "Simpson" (surname) who was Managing Editor, San Francisco Call, c. 1909/10 and, if possible, a possible biographical citation on him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help Ron and the wonderful service you are providing.

Your guy is Ernie Simpson or actually Ernest S. Simpson. Newspaper men used to jump around a lot during those early years because they didn't have union security like they have today. I believe Ernie was on a lot of different papers and eventually wound up on the Chronicle where he became city editor or actually I think he was the city editor of the Chronicle and then became the managing editor of the Call. Yeah that's right.
