Burying St Joseph

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Have any of you ever buried a St Joseph statue in your yard to make your house sell faster? Our house in Indy still hasn't sold, so I'm going to give it a try. A woman I work with swears by it, she's sold three houses so far and the longest any of them has been on the market is 2 weeks. Our house has been on the market for almost 5 months so I'm ready to try anything. :)

Um, sherri, hehe........I dunno bout any st joseph needing to be buried, but having sold several houses, I'd say lowering the price works best. :)

EM I've lowered the price twice already. It's listed for $8K less than what I paid for it and if I drop the price any lower I'm going to end up selling it for less than what I owe on the mortgage. If you look at the CMA I'm at the mid to low end of other houses with comparable square footage and we really fixed the place up before putting it on the market (new carpet, new laminate floors, freshly repainted the entire interior) It's the neighborhood that's killing me. I've had several potential buyers say that they would pay every penny of my asking price if the house was only in a different neighborhood. The neighborhood has totally gone to hell in the past couple of years. I went over there to mow the lawn last week and caught two of the neighbor boys huffing spray paint in our backyard. It's that bad. :(

I've considering just letting it go into foreclosure but I really don't want to trash my credit rating like that. I may contact the mortgage company and see if they'll accept a short sale, although that will probably trash my credit rating too. :(

Hey Sherri...I'm not religeous, nor do I personally believe in "worshipping" any type of icon, BUT...I have heard that some folks will pray to St. Anthony to help them find something they've lost and they swear it works. So heck...why NOT bury St. Joseph :-)!! Worth a try I guess!

BTW...five months isn't so long. Be patient. I'm sure it will sell soon!!

Geez sherri, that stinks about the neighborhood! Not too much you can do about that I guess. You have my condolences!

Sherri, as an ex Realtor, I can tell you what always worked for my clients. Simply change Realtors at the end of the listing period. Pops a house everytime! The first Realtor does the advertising, weeds out the looky-loos and shows the house to dozens of people who can't afford it and as soon as the listing period is out and you change to another Realtor, it sells within a week or to the first person that sees it. Hated that when it happened. Has nothing to do with the Realtor, just time.

Burying things in the yard didn't work for Dahmer or Casey.

Wildman, (been there)

Hey, Sherri, a PAGAN using St. Joseph? Maybe some sympathetic magic of a different sort? ;-) Good luck!

I'm not above using a little Christian witchcraft if that's what it takes. I did an offering to Bride too, just to cover all the bases. :)

There's a showing scheduled for this afternoon so we'll see what happens. Go Go St Joseph! :)

Sherri, have you dug St. Joe up yet? Or do you still have the house?

Wildman, (concerned for St. Joe)

St Joseph is still buried in the flowerpot by the front door. We still have the house. :(
