Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. They symbolize Christ, Who is characterized in scripture as "the beginning and the end" (Rev 21:6; Rev 22:13)

The Symbol which looks like an "X" superimposed on a "P" is also two Greek letters, "chi" and "ro". The symbol composed of the two letters is called the "chi-ro", or sometimes "Constantine's Cross", and is also a symbol for Christ. It was designed by Constantine, and represents the first letters in the name "Christ" ("chi" = "ch"; "ro" = "r"). As the story goes, the symbol appeared to him in a dream just before a major battle, with the message "by this sign you shall conquer".

Thanks Paul, to add to that, the significance of Christ being the Alpha and the Omega (beginning and end) is that He is the beginner and finisher of our faith, He was before all things, as the firstborn among many brothers, and the God of eternity past. As well, Christ was the last Adam, ending the old creation with His death upon the cross. He is the source of all our blessing and the finisher of all things.

Praise the Lord.

Oliver.

correction on the previous two responses. its not jesus christ being referred to as the alpha and omega, or beginning and end. its is god. jesus is gods son. jesus had a beginning, unlike god. most people confuse jesus and god as being one and the same. however, if you read the bible thoroughly, as well as research other manuscripts and encyclopedias, you will find this to be false.

Correction on the previous response. Your Bible says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS god". Jesus is the Word referred to ion this passage and many others. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us". Reading the Bible thoroughly will enable you to find false anything you wish to find false, which is why there are over 20,000 conflicting, contradicting, Bible-reading denominations. On the other hand, if you listen to the Church Christ founded, as the Bible commands you to, the Church which your Bible tells you is the pillar and foundation of truth, you can avoid such confusion and know the truth. Jesus, the Son of God, is God and has been God from all eternity.

"Of the SON He says, "Your throne OH GOD is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom".(Hebrews 1:8)

True, Paul; and if Erik Kluth had really read the Bible ''thoroughly'', he would have seen this: Jesus said, ''I am the Alpha and the Omega''.

If Jesus wasn't God, then He would be lying.
