i would like to find out the effectiveness of brakes of an electric eleelevator by brake friction tests on load.im a fifth year student at the COPPERBELT UNIVESITY pursuing the degree program electrical/mechanical and doing a project on electric elevators.

Each elevator is designed to carry a specific amount of weight, which is called the rated load. The brakes are designed to hold AT LEAST 125% of the rated load.

Elevator brakes are designed to hold an elevator, not to stop them: exept an older style 2 speed ac unit( out dated)

sorry frank but they are suppose to stop the lift in an emergency upto atleast 125% load? if not tell me where the one's that you know about and I will give them about a Mile clearance!!!!!! mole.

Me too....hope u dont work in Australia...most of the units we work on are 1 and 2 speed machines.
