TROLL INFLAMATION QUESTIONS.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I want to discuss soemtign on the internet I see a lot.

Trolls. There are two kinds. The first kind is rude and obnoxious, hiding behind the anonimity and rleatived safety of the Internet to lash out at others, to type etext profanity, to shock and berate others, and to overall sow malice. These I call Malicient Trolls.

The second type tries to pit one poster agaisnt another , or all posters agaisnt a selefted target. YThey find a weakness, and exploit it, while acting kindly toward the other posters, and gianign their trust, they viciosuly attack another.

These I call manioulative Trolls, or those who eek to cause division.

Then their are the Trolls who ask queatsiosn to make peopel mad, shock them, or offend them, and yet atthe same time and pretend to be innocent. Then they ask queatsions to diliberatley irritate others and , if called on it, say "It's not my fault, I didnt MEAN to offend, so you obviosuly too it the rong way." Or, if an argument breaks out, they say " Well I certianly didnt expectthis to hapen." When, og course, they did, and htis was hteir objective.

I know most Trolls only appear to cause trouble, and basically why they appear is because they are suffering inside, form lonilness, depressoiopn, anger, or rejection, and need to witness others loose their security, their happiness, their cool, be rejected, or hurt, in order not to feel completely worhtless.

However, I often wonder if they have other reasons for causing distress. OK, sorry, this is just an observation.

In Michigan those who live in the upper pennisula call those who live in the lower pennisula "trolls" because they live "under the bridge" of Machinaw.

Now this may or may not be true. The real question is: what's the difference between a Troll and an Ogre?

The real question is: what's the difference between a Troll and an Ogre?

There's more dark meat on an ogre.

Are you a troublemaker, Soccerman, for relaying bad news? You sure are, but that's OK. Relaying bad news isn't a sin. If you did it maliciously, it might be; but we know you wouldn't come here maliciously! Troublemaking will get you nowhere, anyway. We are 95% faithful Catholics here, welcoming you.

You may think we are alarmed over a bishop who fell out with the law. Let me say that didn't affect his authority as a Catholic prelate; it only shows he doesn't pay attention to stop signs.

His ''courageous priest's'' letter is sad to see. How did it fall into the hands of troublemakers? Did he mail you a carbon copy? Fr. Prokopio may not care what we think about his obligations to his bishop, Soccerman. Which is fine; we don't care about his false impressions of his bishop, or of our Mass of the New Rite. We can't care, because Fr. Procopio has NO authority to judge the Mass, or the people, or His superiors. He is in mortal sin, under the circumstances-- as you describe them.

His foolish statement in the letter:''These false teachings and practices, my dear Bishop, are what has led the faithful astray and divided Catholics,'' . . . is merely his self-serving denial of the bishop's legitimate authority. He is a disobedient priest, not a martyr or a reformer. He causes division, and he is the one gone astray. May God have mercy on him.

As for the poor bishop; let's pray for him. He is far from a ''murderer'', as you've shown here. He's a hit & run driver. You know, many laymen have committed worse crimes; and we should hope the bishop finds forgiveness, shouldn't we? If Soccerman killed somebody accidently, we would pray for him; that he receive a light sentence, perhaps? We sure wouldn't call him a bad layman. Or a murderer. I would give the bishop a fair trial like anybody else. He might not be guilty at that. We're supposed to wait & see.

This is America you know. (If they didn't read the bishop his rights when they collared (Heh-heh!) him, he could go free! I'll pray for it!) Lol!

Actually, a fair and just trial should be the goal. The man is innocent until proven guilty of a crime. I suppose it is ok to have a bias towards men of the cloth, but I prefer that justice be blind to everything except the facts/evidence. Shoot! If people judged me on my looks, they'd of fried me a long time ago.

Good point, Rod.
The courageous Fr. Procopio may well be a handsome, blue-eyed, dead ringer for Fabio the Hunk. With a voice like Mario Lanza, Si?

But it won't change the fact that he is irresponsible, untrustworthy and a liar. His wonderful letter is not a Catholic priest's letter.

Ahhh Eugene its nice to see you still have your head in the sand regarding the shape of the Catholic Church these days.

By the way, I saw a picture of Fr. Procopio and he looks nothing like Fabio. I look more like Fabio than he does!

Why are you upset with a man who celebrates a mass which the Pope has granted an indult to perform but not upset when sacramental marriages are being violated left and right, according to the Roman Rota, the Papal court? Are you really a closet episcopist? Is their a hierarchy of importance among the sacraments which lets one be violated openly and in scandalous numbers with impunity while another, which is allowed to be done morally, ethically and legally by the highest authority in the Church, if done without permission is a damnable offense?

I think you are afraid to seek the truth Eugene. What a waste of a good mind and heart, which I know you possess.

I like the letter although I admit I did not critically analyze it. I presume your objection is the priests open disobedience to his Bishop, which I must admit is not necessarily the right thing to do but I do not know what has transpired before and from what I know of the Bishop he was hardly an inspiring priest himself. As to his leaving the Church to join the SSPX, that seems sad to me. It is a sad situation all around.

Thank you, Karl. You see my point exactly; and when all's said and done, I've taken the secure route. The ''shape'' you claim the Church to be in; what are you going to do about it?

I pray for Holy Mother Church. For holy priests and for repentence of sinners. All Catholics aren't saints, so we pray always for the sinners. I hope you don't object?

-- eugene c. chavez (loschavez@pacbell.net), October 11, 2003.

Then, --If you look like Fabio, and I look like an archangel, which of us is right?

Only the one who complies with faith to the proven teachings of the Church. The person who pays his own dues, not who reduces the Church to his own, personal level. Applying flame to her, ridiculing her, denouncing her publicly. You are at heart a pathetic man, My Friend. Your mother didn't spank you enough and discipline is too much for you to bear. Pardon my ad hominem reply; I speak as your loving brother.
