What is core decompression?

HI Eleanor, Core decompression is an early surgical treatment for avascular necrosis. This surgery is done under spinal or general anesthetic and the surgeon drills holes into the head of the femur to restore vascular flow to the area which has suffered from bone death (necrosis) due to lack of circulation. You can find out more about this surgery and avascular necrosis (AVN) on the "totaljoints.info/hip" website.
