Dear Paul,

Oh.. I never thought the Chick publications still existed. I have read a few pamphlets and booklets given to me by some congregational Protestants about 10 years ago. It was very harsh and demeaning to read those articles.

If I am not mistaken, I faintly remember the author is allegedly an ex-Jesuit who has left the church and married, and he has founded this publications. He must have left the church in intense hatred to publish such evil things. I was a bit disturbed at those times when I read the shrewdly weaved together scripture, fringe history, and church conspiracy stories to produce a shocking effect. He refers to some cardinal Beau who relates to him all the so called wicked and hidden things of the church before the left the church.

Just like when Judas left Jesus at the Last Supper and Satan entered his heart, the same must have happened here too. He is now used by the evil power to wreck havoc both on unsuspecting catholics as well as some well-meaning Protestants (who may have some inclination for the Catholic church). The tone is filled with so much hate. However, I believe even many wise Protestants too no longer accept his publication as they are starting to see through his game, except perhaps a few hate-filled ones.

I have not seen much about that for 10 years until you brought this up.

God Bless You

Chick's material is pretty much considered a sad joke by many Protestants, except perhaps by fundamentalists (e.g., Southern Baptists). Several recent mentions of Chick on a Charismatic forum illicited almost universal condemnation of his lies and gross exaggerations. Course they think it's funny, because they weren't the target of his lies as you Catholics were/are.

Yes, most "mainline" Protestants, even those with ill feelings toward the Catholic Church, recognize Chick Publications as packaged ignorance at best, hate-filled blasphemy at worst. Many of his pamphlets are truly blasphemous (my "favorite" - his pamphlet on the Eucharist, entitled "The Death Cookie") - yet he still proclaims genuine Christian love and concern for Catholics. His God-given mission is to rescue Catholics from that ultimate tool of Satan, the Catholic Church. He is a pitiable human being.

My first encounter with that Chick smutt met with an elevated heart rate and sweat. I could feel my respiration rate increase and my facial muscles begin to contract. My eyelids ceased to blink and the hairs on my back became ready for a fight. As I read, I knew that every accusation has a valid answer. I wasn't about to accept their slander just like that without looking into the flip side of the story.

The meanest tract deals with the ex-Jesuit priest and his dying mother. The was very disturbing to read, no wonder anti-Catholics react the way they do towards the Church. They've been fed this propaganda against the Church for years. Now, the propaganda is in the comic strips! Yes, sickening!

He doesn't like the Masons or the Mormons either, and even the Mason info site that Ash posted on the Freemasonry thread posts a link to a forum where Catholics refute the Chick publications. (I must admit, the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard "Chick publications" was that some of you were reading something else entirely!) lol.

Here's the link--they have frame by frame corrections, and because Chick's work is copyrighted, they have it so you can link to the site to see the original material while reading the corrections.
