Are you ready for the Convo?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Time is filled with swift transition! The time has come to prepare for the next convo in Birmingham. There certainly will be a great deal to discuss...and debate concerning proposed legislation. There will be ancillary issues to discuss such as the news concerning the church in Atlanta trying to pull out of the connection. If it isn't one thing, it's another! There will also be an update presented by the Strategic Planning Commission. How many will be in attendance in Birmingham? I plan to attend...if my schedule permits. I wish to hear the discussions upon pastoral retirement, to bailing out the various church schools. Any one else interested?

What church is pulling out?

I echo Harold's question. Who in Atlanta is trying to pull out of the Connection? Perhaps Robert Matthews can shed some insight in this matter. I may be in Birmingham depending on my work schedule. I am very much interested in the Higher Education Summitt but I don't think many of our folks are ready to hear my thoughts about the future direction for our AME colleges. QED

Bill, I for one would be. I am interested in reviving Daniel Payne. Since I now live in B'ham. I will attend some of the meetings. I would like to know which church also.

Bill if you can attend the higher education summit please try to go. Your voice should be heard. Particularly since you are a professor and an economist. It is from divergent voices that we often come up with creative solutions. God called you to be a teacher, economist and a Christian, the church needs your particular gifts now. Baby brother please try to go. Also one of our AME colleges is in your state of Florida and since you are on the governor's advisory board for florida for economics you are needed, I am sure your Bishop will appreciate members from his district attending.

For the benefit of those people that may not be familiar with the acronym CONVO, is it possible to state the full title of this convo and the dates when it will be held. Also, what church in Atlanta is trying to pull out of the connection and where did you get this information. God bless.

It is my belief that the Convo VII is going to be an excellent opportunity for our church to finalize plans for the General Conference 2004 and great training sessions for ministerial and for the Laity. Candidates in attendance will be; Arnell, Attles, Bouie, Brown, Bryant, Childs, Champion, Gillison, Hensford, Jackson, Leath,Murph,Parrot,Reid,Simmions,Thompson,Turk,Tyler,Waddy, and others will be intensifying their campaign journey in networking with ministerial and lay delegates. Their profolio's are being seen by delegates as they will relate their mission for the episcopacy for 2004.

I plan to attend the Higher Education Summit following the Convo. I am looking forward to hearing in which direction our leadership will have our colleges go. I hope that I return home feeling good about the AME Church's next steps regarding this issue.
