Brass whistle with my gradfathers name engraved

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I have a brass steam whistle that was apparently given to my grandfather when he retired from the Southern RR. "C. Doss" (Clifton Doss was his name) is engraved on it. There don't appear to be other markings to identify the whistle (unless they are inside).

He was an engineer, and I think he retired in the early 1930's. Before working for Southern, he worked for the old "F nd P"-- the Franklin and Pittsylvania. I would like to know where the whistle was made and what train it came from.
