Ok all over this place I have read that people hate funimation. Why? I don't get it the reasons seem to be ether they like blue water/ocean group or they like watching the jap verion with subbs.

Blue water is cut and voices are crap they didn't come along till funimation did it and dbz became so popular, meaning there just doing it for the money. ocean is the same people sort of, its the cast hired by funimation for the saiyan and namek, because of some reason they got to use funimations scrip and title screens, then they changed the begging intro to a really crap one, and got there own crappy music. Now the japinese verion I don't get at all (why would someone want to watch something in a different language anyway)? If those people hate funimation voices they proberly don't like the English language for some weird reason that I can't understand.

funimation were there first ok they didn't do a good job with namek and saiyan but they will be redoing it soon, all of the episodes that funimation have done with there voice cast have been 100% uncut (not what they show on cartoon network the stuff on the DVDs). The funimation music is better then the jap and ocean, the voices are good and you can understand what they are saying.

well from what ive seen over ppl say...id say these are teh reasons why most ppl (including me) think the jap verson is better than dub

1) dub has shit voices

2)dub has shit dialougue

\3) dub music jumps back and forth inbetween tracks like 40= times in 1 eps

4)dub music also has no emotion, just alot of rock and roll bullshit

5)since dub's dialougue is changed, there are many plot holes

6)dub is OVERLY edited

7) dub is packed with shitty jokes

8)dub has added dialogue that shouldnt be there when there should be a moment of intense silence

and well the bottom line is that it seems like FUNI tries to hard to make dragonball into thier own version, which they consider badass. sure its ass to read subs, but its also worth the effort

The funimation "music" blows. There is NOTHING good about the dub music.

the funimation version of the first 53 episodes were done by ocean through pioneer and yes they sucked too

Not only, as previously said, does the funimation version introduce many plot errors with their horribly written dialogue, but they change entire meanings around until the idea is lost and everyone is confused and embarrassed.

Some spots in the dub are COMPLETE OPPOSITES of what was originally said (try watching the funi DVD's with the dub audio but the original subs)

A lot of aspects of the characters have also been changed as well. Japan ought to hang the guy who wrote the english translations. DBZ would have gotten a better dub if they just had an old lady reading the original subs outloud rather than have a bunch of fags like Sabat pretend like they are tough shit just because they can slaughter dbz with the WORST dubbing of all time and still have it be popular.

What *I* don't understand is why people like YOU *LIKE* the dub version!!!!!!! First of all let me say this-Dragonball is from Japan, and if you have NO respect for that country and it's language you shouldn't be watching ANY Anime, dubbed or not. "Why watch in another language?" If not for the fact that English DBZ sucks, for the fact that THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION AND IT DESERVES SOME GOD DAMN RESPECT!!!!!!!! And yes, the music sucks so much ass it isn't even funny. My parents ask me the same thing of "If it has an English version why watch it in Japanese?", and when I explain the MILLIONS of reasons to them they give me a look like I'm insane. All I can think of to tell them is "Why do you think I'm not particularly interested in spending my money on the Japanese versions of any other Anime I watch?", although it'd be cool to see it in original, I'd rather not spend my cash if they have a good dub (Inu Yasha (Adult Swim is currently running repeats, but the new ones are totally uncut), Rurouni Kenshin (Edited, but THE BEST EDITED VERSION OF ANYTHING. They don't insist on cutting alcohol/drugs, blood, or mild sexual humor like FUNimation), Furi Kuri, Yuu Yuu Hakusho (I LOVE FUNimation's work on this, but Uncut only cuz of course FUNi fucked up the edited version of this as well. All music is original, though.), and others). But FUNimation's dub of Dragonball represents all things evil in this country as far as television standards. For God's sake, I notice things on regular Cartoon Network cartoons (Dexter, Powerpuff Girls, Kids Next Door, etc) that FUNimation cut from DBZ!!!!!! And seriously, WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF CHANGING HARMLESS MUSIC?! "Well there's an *occasional* vocal insert, and we don't want to rot our children's minds with anything from that horrid country!!!! They might bomb Pearl Harbor!!!" I swear, this is exactly the stuff that South Park made fun of in the Chinpokomon episode!!!! American parents are complete morons!!!!! But FUNimation justs wants to play it safe and make money. Christ, if you want to dub Dragonball Z DON'T PUT IT ON CARTOON NETWORK!!!!! Obviously much of the contect is rightfully censored (We don't wanna see Kame Sennin trying to get Puff Puffs), but THAT'S WHY IT DOESN'T BELONG ON THAT CHANNEL!!!!!! Just because it's animated?! I shudder to think what would happen if they tried to put Futurama, Family Guy, and South Park (my favorite non-Anime animated shows) on a prime-time kid's channel...THEY WOULD HAVE *NO* MATERIAL TO WORK WITH!!!!! But you kids wouldn't have the faintest idea of what I speak of. You're content with FUNimation's dub, because you don't KNOW about what you're missing. And besides all the things that I mentioned, almost ALL dialouge is changed to include slang that kids don't even USE (some horrid examples are "Mondo Cool!" and "That's Wak!"), plots are CONSTANTLY changed (Vegeta's Super Saiyajin Transformation comes to mind), and half the time they make even MORE trouble for themselves! For example on that last one, when Nappa cuts off Tenshinhan's arm in the Saiyajin Saga, they couldn't just edit the blood gush and be done with it, since he fights without an arm until he is killed. So to make it seem as though Tenshinhan's great pain and suffering was no biggie, they added in THIS line-"Just wait 'till it grows back!" And now I see two kids sitting at home watchnig this. "Aw cool!", says little Billy. "If I cut your arm off it'll just grow back!" And so the arm comes off thanks to a handy kitchen knife left out by the careless parent (You know, the kind who'll leave a meat cleaver on the counter but will be careful to see if Dragonball Z has any offensive content...), and little Johnny is in the hospital for a week, and FUNimation gets a lawsuit. They're so ignorant they don't even realize that Tenshinhan's 2 second line of dialouge does MUCH more harm than help. Also, Dragonball Z quite obviously is from Japan, a country with many different religious beliefs and traditions than ours. So it's EXTREMELY offensive to both Buddhists in Japan AND Christians in the United States to add Christian dialouge, such as Kuririn reciting "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" (He's a BUDDHIST MONK!!!!! ARE YOU SO BLIND YOU CAN'T SEE THE BRAND ON HIS HEAD?!), and Piccolo's "Haven't you ever heard the story of David and Goliath?". How is that offensive to CHRISTIANS, you may ask? I'd have wondered the same thing if not having read 28 pages of a back- and-forth battle between hardcore DBZ fans and a retarded mother preaching the evils of Dragonball. But wait, there's MUCH MUCH MUCH more!!!! Now we CONTRAST the Christian beliefs! First we add in those little goodies, and then we downgrade the mighty Kami-Sama, God of the Earth (Notice of the EARTH, not the universe and heaven like our Christian God), to the "Guardian"!!!!!! It's not like Toriyama Sensei was basing him AT ALL on the Christian God IN THE FIRST PLACE, and he certainly doesn't have Kami-Sama performing any miracles!!! Kami-Sama is MORTAL!!!!!!! Oh wait, I'm not even CLOSE to being done telling you why FUNimation's DBZ sucks!!!!! But I'm also tired of typing my lungs out (Eh? That made no sense...whatever...), but maybe now all you little FUNimation fanboys have a LITTLE more insight to this. As I said before, go to DBZ Uncensored (I said how in an above post) and learn more for yourself. There are tons of websites out there that preach similar things, but I used to be the same. "What's the big deal? It's the same show...", I would say. But this site was the only one with the power to convert me (Keep in mind I had only seen the dub Saiyajin Saga and JUST when they took off to Namek when I discovered this and coverted to Japanese DBZ) to the right side. And I believe I've wasted enough time, but perhaps I shall return someday to post my PERSONAL reason for why I hate FUNi so much. Looking past those early edits. Past the horrible music. Into the way that my favorite scene of all time, in ANY Anime, or ANYTHING at all, was utterly and totally destroyed. It was as if FUNimation tore it down from it's glorious pedistal, pissed all over it, ran it through a shredder, and tried to re-create an English version with small scraps of paper that smelled like piss. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about Son Gohan's Ascention to Super Saiyajin Level 2, easily one of the most emotional scenes in all of Dragonball. And also, in case nobody notices FUNi cuts out stuff FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER!! In my Favorite episode in DBZ history (Don't ask me to name out my reasons) is "For the Sake of My Loved Ones, Vegeta falls." Americans also may know it as "The Final Atonement." And I finally saw a clip of it in original Japanese (translated into Italian where they don't censor anything) and there was this part when Vegeta was embracing Trunks and Goten sticks his thumb in his mouth, it's so incredibly Kawaii and I loved it. And I remember in the American version they cut it out. Why? I could never figure it out. Just wanted to point that out.

Yeah, sorry I tend to go on and on when I type...But I was REALLY pissed that these guys actually have to ASK what's wrong with FUNi. Just like you said-Gen Fukunaga, FUNi's president, is Japanese, and he TOTALLY fucked over his country. I agree the Kid Buu music is emotional. I think the most emotional BGM (Not Unmei no Hi of course, that's vocal) is the piece used in the original Dragonball after Kuririn is killed and we learn about Piccolo Daimaou...Don't ask me why, I've always preffered DBZ's music to DB's (DB used WAAAAAAAYYYY too many different background versions of Makafushigi Adventure, as far as I'm concerned). But what's WORSE than FUNi's changing music in the series is what they're doing to the movies...In September Cartoon Network ran DBZ Bardock Special, DBZ Trunks Special (MY FAVORITE DBZ MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), DBZ Movie #5, and DBZ Movie #6. THEY USED REAL AMERICAN PUNK ROCK BAND MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU *DO* THAT?!!! HAVE THEY LOST WHAT LITTLE MINDS THEY HAD?! I personally believe that the Bardock and Trunks TV Specials were the best movies, because they weren't just the "New movie bad guy let's kill 'im" thing, they were real, emotional side stories to the main plot of DBZ. And they used some of the most emotional music in the Bardock Special. I've only seen the Bardock Special once, in a low-quality Fansub, but it ROCKED!!!!! I cried through almost all of it, especially at the end where Bardock dies and we see Gokou grow up over the years...AND FUNIMATION REPLACED THE EMOTIONAL MUSIC WITH HARD CORE PUNK ROCK!!!!!! I personally hate Punk Rock as a whole, but even if it's your preference in music you know it has NO place in Dragonball, ESPECIALLY in these two TV Specials!!!!!!! God, I could keep going, but I don't wanna get pissed again...Like I said before about them pissing on scrap pieces and...well I really forget what I actually said, but...FOR THE MUSIC USED IN THE TV SPECIALS FUNIMATION HIRED COWS FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND HAD THEM SHIT ON DRAGONBALL Z'S MUSIC, BASICALLY SAYING "FUCK YOU" TO TAKESHI IKE, THE COMPOSER OF MOST OF DBZ'S MUSIC, AND KAGEYAMA HIRONOBU, THE SINGER OF MOST OF DBZ'S MUSIC (He rocks!) wow i never thought i would get such a responce... i have nothing against the jap vetion but i can't be bothered to watch it. i didn't know that there was such a difference between it and funi, I just thought you watched cause of the jap voices but I see u don’t. I also went to this site and this proves there is no editing in funimation animation wise ( you are right about the jokes and stuff but I still like them) . First I looked in the stuff they cut section and I saw stuff that I have seen before on funimation uncut ( the stuff on the DVDs not cartoon network, for me the dvd rips that I downloaded for I live in the UK, that’s why I hate ocean, and blue water so much) like in majin buu where the guys head blows up I saw that on funi amoung other stuff.

But still the writing is change seening db/z/gt in its origanal jap format has ansewed my quiestion, as seen above. So I take it back.

I think people mainly juge funimation on the pioneer Siyan and Namek which was cut horribly. Does anyone know where to download jap subs siyan-namek that shuld be good.

in a way jap + funi are two sides of a coin, 1 is great cause its origonal and the other is grate because its the best dubbed version.

as for anything lower than funimation such as=

Bluewater and Ocean = They can fuck them-selves because us English do speak you Americans language and its gay that we dont get all of you dubbed stuff from games to movies to tv shows.

Well, first off I'm a girl ^_^ And secondly...

I also went to this site and this proves there is no editing in funimation animation wise ( you are right about the jokes and stuff but I still like them) . First I looked in the stuff they cut section and I saw stuff that I have seen before on funimation uncut ( the stuff on the DVDs not cartoon network, for me the dvd rips that I downloaded for I live in the UK, that’s why I hate ocean, and blue water so much) like in majin buu where the guys head blows up I saw that on funi amoung other stuff.

Sorry kid, but FUNimation DOES sell the Uncut English dub on the DVD's, but cut A TON of Animated footage in the Cartoon Network run (Many rightly so, I mean it WOULD be innapropriate to show several things, and Bulma's "helping" the gang in the fight with Uranai Baba's Five Fighters comes to mind, but also A LOT of the footage cut is well enough for Cartoon Network standards. For example, stuff left untouched in the Toonami airing of Rurouni Kenshin had similar content to what FUNimation cuts from Dragonball/DBZ and Yuu Yuu Hakusho). THey did NOT show Babidi make the Bozu's head explode, among MANY MANY other things. However, yes it is the best dub compared to Blue Water and Ocean. I mean, I was INCREDIBLY impressed when FUNi took over right after Ocean (During the Freeza Saga, the fights with the Ginyuu Tokusentai). They did cut a good amount of blood from the scenes where Ginyuu Taichou impales himself and when Freeza tears Nail's arm off (Mainly squirting, 'specially with Nail cuz there was A LOT of blood squirting out), but also left the majority in. Good, cuz Ginyuu impailing himself is CRUCIAL to the plot, which is why Gokou cannot fight in the wounded body. But I also noticed...This stuff got cut from the rest of the series, causing me to believe those particular two were left because the blood was not red (Dragonball has a good variety of blood color. All Namekseijin have dark purple blood, and various mutants like Zarbon and Ginyuu Taichou have blue blood). But yes, FUNimation DID improve the quality of the dub from Ocean and Blue Water's versions. But it still doesn't hold a MATCH, let alone a candel, to the good ol' Toei Animation version. And I just realized I continue to type my standard long posts, so I'll just end with these notes- FUNIMATION SUCKS, MIRAI NO TRUNKS IS HOT, CHIBIS ARE KAWAII, AND GOHAN IS THE BEST!!!! wut up y'all im a dude from America and i watch the funi eps and they cut a lot of stuff out i heard but i do not wanna read stuff while im watching my favorite show. Reading is for school and should only be done at school or for school. I understand the japanese eps are waaaaayyy better but im not gonna take the time out to sit wide eyes in front of my computer and read. i rather just listen. u all make good points about the eps (specially angelgoten) but in the end ill think i'll stick with the funi until later on when ive seen everything of dragonball (i hope they make a new version of dragonball, doubt it though) and then i might c the japanese ones. hopefully then i will b able to get my hands on the eps. I didn't mind the dubbed version. Many of the voices sucked but at least the main characters have decent voice actors. I can't say the same thing about any other anime I have watched because it has been subbed from there on besides the crap they put on CN. I also had no problem with the music. Maybe my lack of contempt of DBZ dubs is due to the fact that I started watching it before I truly got into anime. DBZ was just a transition phase from normal person to the otaku I am today. The first 100 or so episodes of DBZ sucked in most aspects. I don't know if viewing it in the original format would help plus who would wanna rewatch a series that lasts almost 300 episodes. I personally would just move on to newer better series. Go watch Hunter x Hunter or Get Backers instead of trying to watch DBZ again.

Correction: Chris Sabat is NOT a decent voice actor and he is more than one main character.

Ocean Group are the people who dubbed the first 53 episodes FOR funimation (thats why, obviously, the ocean voices are the same ones from the first episodes)

Sure the animation has been uncut on the dvd's but the dialogue is HORRIBLY edited and they SLAUGHTERED the translation.

The funimation music BLOWS it doesn't fit half the time and they have it going nonstop.

Funimation lost most of the meaning of the series when they had a dumbshit write their script, introducing an infinite number of unnecessary errors that turned more people away from dbz instead of toward it. Its amazing the show was still measurably popular in the usa with how badly it was dubbed.

Alright then. Krillin is kawaii in dragonball. krillin's the best no matter wut no1 say. if he can pull a fine ass ho like 18 he's cool in my book. Come on.Get your facts straight. Ocean are an excellent company with brilliant actors and fantastic dubbing skills.Here in England we are shown the amazing Ocean dub, which I never really appreciated until I bought the crap FUNimation fusion saga.The voices were bad, they didnt fit the character as well as the fine-tuned Ocean dub did.Brian Drummond and Scott Mcneil slammed Chris Sabat as Piccolo and Vegeta respectively.Ocean came before FUNimation and the cocky FUNi's dropped them after the Saiyan saga and continued alone.What a grave mistake. So okay the intro for Ocean is bad, but who cares?Its only an intro. If only USA could see the Ocean dub, because I'm sure they'd choose it over Ocean any day.

well funimation did do the saiyan and Namek saga but they had a different voice cast the ocean team (there in the credits for them) this is really known as the pioner dub (which was cut horrible like 10 eps, lunkly funimation will be redoing them with there voice cast uncut).

all though i like funimatoion best (mainly because they keep the voices the same since freeza upwards, ocean didn't goku had a few different voice in it) ocean are still a pretty good voice cast, what i don't like is there stupid blue water offshot company who did dragonball gt and now dragonball (they made there intro for dragonball craper then what they first had which was crap).

I thought funimation was crap when i saw it on cartoon network with there fustion saga, but then i got use to them and i saw funimation dbz all the way though it was uncut the voices don't change during the trunks saga, (cartoon network Uk still show the funimation freeza- trunks half way 2day). the funimation uk sceening on CNX wasn't the uncut vetion which sucks, I think that goes for freeza - Trunks as well.

any way this message board has clearly said jap is the favourt, and funimation is the best english dub. i learned alot putting this thing up:)

I think the funi voices are good and i couldnt think of goku or vegeta sounding any other way. the episodes that pioneer did (ocean dub) suck. there would b a bunch of "sending u to the next dimension" going on and thats gay. hey suupa i didnt know u were a girl so u dont suck suupa balls anymore hehehe lol

The funimation voices suck. Chris Sabat makes a horrible piccolo and an even worse vegeta. Frieza didn't have to sound gay. Buu's voice didn't have to be some high pitched screechy thing (ref: original version was much different). Yet for some odd reason, funimation saw fit to ruin these characters and others. Even worse is the translation. The voices might have been barable if the translation hadn't f*cked up SO BADLY.

Same as with Majin Buu, they messed up Jinzouningen Juukyuugou, or Android #19's voice up EVEN WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He had a very polite deep voice in the Japanese version, but FUNi's is just...Well, you REALLY need to HEAR it to know how bad it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that aweful voice combined with the crazy circus-like music in the background...Well, nicely put, it made for one helluva crappy saga, ESPECIALLY to me cuz I didn't care for it much in JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
