Has anyone heard the name DiMare , Sam DiMare, Valpariso St.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

Has anyone ever heard of Sam DiMare, the DiMare family (and not the vegetable (tomato) family). They lived on Valpariso st. in the late thirtys early forties. Sam DiMare ran a pool hall (gambling) in a small storefront behind a candy storefront, a few doors down from where Stellas pastrys are now on Columbus. He later moved to San Mateo, had several brothers, any help at all would be appreciated.

HI BILL: I KNEW SOME OF THE DIMARES IN SAN MATEO WHEN I LIVED IN THE BAY AREA. I HAD CONTACT WITH A LINDA DIMARE AND A FEW OTHERS. IN 1989 I HELPED PUT TOGETHER A DIMARE FAMILY DINNER IN SAN FRANCISCO AT SWISS LOUIS RESTAURANT, OWNED BY GINNY DIMARE AND SAL CHIAVINO; WE HAD ABOUT 30 IN ATTENDANCE. MY SIDE OF THE FAMILY ALL RESEMBLED THE OLDER GENERATION OF PICUTRES I SAW, AND YES, I AM PART OF THE TOMATO FAMILY THAT ORIGINATED IN MASS. WE ALL CAME FROM AUGUSTA, SICILY, AND NEAR SIRACUSA.

Richard, Linda DiMare is my aunt, Sam DiMare is her father, how did you come about contacting them when you did, are you still in contact with Linda? Our family also came from Augusta, seems to be a million Dimares in that region. I always assumed being a DiMare was the equivalent of being a Smith or Jones. Not to be nosey but I have to ask, have you done much research on the DiMares?

I have been living in the bay area for 6 years and did not know of any Dimares out here. My great grandparents are also from Augusta. I am also from the East coast. Do you know of any other DiMares out here? Max DiMare www.dimarecatering.com
