Am I able to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation?

I am a baptized candidate in RCIA and was wondering if I need to wait until Lent to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Hi Terri,

As I'm sure you are aware, the Sacrament of Reconciliation isn't one of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This sacrament doesn't. have to be first celebrated at the same time as you are received into the Church. However, it's important that you are catechised adequately before you celebrate First Reconciliation, the same as you would be with any of the other sacraments. The ultimate decision as to whether you are ready to receive any sacrament lies with the priest in your parish. Have a talk with him and I'm sure he will be happy to allow you to receive First Reconciliation as soon as he feels you're ready to do so.

This is a beautiful, healing, therapeutic sacrament and I hope you are able to celebrate and reap the benefits often.

May God bless you in your journey into His Church.

In our program, the Sacrament of Reconcilliation is one of our final preparations before we receive the sacraments of confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter vigil. We ask our candidates to schedule an appointment with a priest in the week leading up to the Easter Tridiuum.

I would suggest that the program will have more meaning if you wait for Reconcilliation, till after the Rite of Election and you enter the final phase of your journey.

Discuss this with your RCIA team and see what they recommend for you.
