What is the difference between deadly and nondeadly sins

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

In 1 John 5:17 it says:

17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

How do you determine what is a deadly and nondeadly sin? In Catholic theology we have mortal and venial sins, but I never heard an evangelical distinguish between these two types of sin. I'm curious as to your opinions.

Yes, Jeanie I know you do not read my posts.

Some sins were created by the law of Moses, by Canon Law, by people misinterpreting scripture, by people believing that God dictated each word of the Bible.

God is lenient with these perpetrators.

Other sins are the product of ignorance.

God may be lenient on some of them, lik not knowing who he really is.

I can count with my fingers and toes how many people have actually talked to God.

Then there are the mortal sins.

Murder, rape, slavery, child molestation, homosexuality,...

even for some of these God could be forgiving.

Yes James, in Catholic theology. In Christian doctrine, all sins lead to death. Wickedness is in the eye of humans, but sin is sin to Jehovah-God. A white lie is just the same as murder to Jehovah.

The Bible says that there is sin that is not deadly. David says all sin leads to death. Who should I believe? Hmmmm.

Jeanie says:

Why dont you go spread your satanic lies someplace else Mr. "yourlost@nosalvtion4noncatholics.org" someplace else!

What warmth those WELS types show. They certainly seem like loving and kind people to me. I am sure that David must be proud of his new forum member.

Interesting James, you just claim the bible says that but offer no proof.

No, this is going to become a forum with lots of Roman Catholics posting on it. It won't become like the Catholic forum, where only one opinion gets heard.

David,

Here is the biblical proof:

1 John 5:17 it says: 17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

For Ty,

How blind can you be my brother in Christ not to see that there are sins that not even a priest can forgive?

Starting with the High Priest Eli in the Book of samuel: 1Sa 3:11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. 1Sa 3:12 In that day I will perform against Eli all [things] which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. 1Sa 3:13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 1Sa 3:14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

Eli's house lost the priesthood within a 100 year period.

Then Jesus in Matthew 18 speaks also about certain things not easily forgiven:

3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Our Church, the Catholic Church by emphasizing celibacy attracted people with homosexual tendencies who have stained the church by chil molestation, women molestation, and so for.

That is why I quoted the passage above.

There wil come a time when Our church will disappear.

I tried to prevented, writing to Pope John Paul II, but I failed.

By the way, Ty, the priest who started all of this was at the church next to my house in San Bernardino, Father Shanley.

I have Bibles in many languages, from many churches, and in the orginal languages, this since I was 10.
