LED Switch Machine indicators

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I have built up my switch machine motors using the Rix Rax 2 with micro switches. One is for the frog, the other is for feedback. I need to wire led's to show the turnout position for walk around operators. I have not been able to figure how to do this with this mounting. I have wired the unit up just like Alan suggests.

Don Crano suggests wiring two diodes in anti parallel which makes sense. How do I wire that into this configuration. I am trying to wire the diode in series with the machine, but get way to much brightness and wrong color. I get yellow, which indiactes to me an AC voltage. Can anyone help or offer advice.

A little more information would help a lot. What kind of switch machines are you using, slow motion or two coil solenoid or??? What power supply are you using to drive the machines, AC, DC, Capacitor discharge???
