the effects of TV and movies on Behavior

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Has anyone really wondered why in certain parts of the world Women are being treated badly. Why men and women in America are more confused today about relationships today then they were 2000 years ago... Why certain rules of relationships for better or worst is being thrown out the window for instant gratification. Do you think TV and movies show people fornicating at will encourage this bad behavior? On the other hand, do you think this behavior has been around since the beginning of time and, because of religion discouraged, controlled and hidden? Does Porno and violent movies lead sinful thoughts and sinful actions? IMHO, sinful thoughts do lead to sinful actions and in the Ten Commandments, there is a reason why, #5 through #10 deals with actions to others. Does lusting over a beautiful unknown woman or man hurt anybody? Does watching someone (being abused) in a Porn movie hurt anybody? This woman is someone’s mother, daughter, sister or wife (Visa versa), being photographed/videotaped in an intimate setting for lustful purposes. In addition, if you go in to the raw XXX type movies where fornication is without consequences, you will see that watching enough movies will compel you to do or try some of the actions seen in these movies, But how far will you go? Oral sex, anal sex, three- some and/or gang rape… Why do you think, “applying for an annulment” is an ongoing hot topic on this board? Why are people unsatisfied in their current relationships, is it because of other worldly pleasures (either partner) from watching too much TV/movies? What is his or her need to be with someone else? Why do they think they are missing something else in their lives? I have seen many relationships fail because of a wondering eye (for lack of a better them).

For Pete's sake, why don't you ask a question already?

(Don't use a potentially valid e-mail address as a phony, unless you shut off the reply option on the "new question" screen. Otherwise replies will go to the unsuspecting owner of the address. That has happened before.)

Thanks for making it easier to read. However, that was not the purpose of my remark. I was just teasing you -- using a bit of sarcasm ["... why don't you ask a question already"] because your message probably had more questions in it than any other message ever left on this forum!

Asking many questions is not forbidden, but imagine how intimidating it can be to someone who wants to answer you. They may not want to invest hours replying to you fully. In the future, you may want to break things down and use follow-up questions after one big opener?
