furnace won't shut off

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I have a "Day and Night" furnace, it has a electroinc pilot. The pilot light the fire in the furnace and the blower come on after a little while. It all works fine, except. After the furnace/blower goes on a while, the fire in the furnace is off, but the blower won't shut off!! It just keep blowing. No matter how I adjust the thermostat it won't shut off. Please help. Thanks!

Torry! The problem is caused by either a mechanical fan switch [on older furnaces] or a computer board [in newer furnaces] which has a timer. It depends on how old the furnace is that would determine the type of fan contol. Messin with the Thermostat will not have anything to do with the fan run time.

If it's a putered furnace you'll more than likely have to replace the igniton module [computer] but if it had an older mechanical fan switch--you'llhave to replace it. Puter boards [ignition modules] will cost a bunch--probably over $100 but the mechanical fan switch you should be able to buy at Lowes or some other place for about $25 or so. You should be able to replace either one of'm. old hoot. Matt.24:44
