OK, this has little to do with the normal posts here...BUT...

I got Porn emails the other day, and accedentally hit the link while deleting it, I was subsequently taken to a series of websites that kept poping up... all of this time, closing them. well, NOW, My homepage wont stay on Juno, and goes to a "Search the web" page that includes links to sex of various types...

Every time I reset my homepage, it resets it back, and my computer rejegestered new hardware, but I cant find it on My PC.

How do I get rid of this?

You should probably stay off the porn sites in the first place.

Just kidding. I know, maybe it wasn't funny, but it was just too easy.

I too share your concern. It seems like something could be done about it. It doesn't seem right that people can send you call kinds of junk mail SPAM that are about inappropriate sites. Something needs to be done. Maybe you could put your URL on a no spam list like the phone call list.

By the way, does that thing work, because I am still getting calls?

zarove,

i suggest just setting an email filter on your email account... and then hit block sender instead of just deleting it

these sites are infectuous... the design computer programs which search the internet for email addresses posted (such as on this site, which, alas is why i'll never post my real email).

most likely, i would say that they installed some software that you dont want... like a spyware or adware program. thats what is changing your homepage. also, you may start getting pop ups. to fix pop ups go to http://toolbar.google.com this is a program that installs a search bar on your web browser (the only downside... but its useful too sometimes). it stops ALL popups. any time your computer opens a new browser window without your permission it shuts it down... to make it so that a webpage you want to pop up doesnt get killed, hold control down while you push the link (ie-- for websites that you push a button and a new window pops up, holding control okays that new window).

to fix your homepage, go to your control panel and look up add/remove software. here is the more tricky part. if you dont know a thing about programs, it might be best to stay away from this and let a friend with a small knowledge of programs try instead, but dont pay someone to do it, its not that bad... anyway, go in and, if you see a program you dont recognize (except for anything labelled windows, windows hotfix, etc, official stuff) click to remove it. by going to the website it installed a program on your computer called an adware program. this program resets your homepage and makes it so that pop ups show up on your computer.

best of luck,

On some my e-mailsaddresses I do get porn & other spam , but they all coming straight into the thrashcan !! __ Before I go to sleep , I'll check the trashcan for maybe wanted mails I need , but accidently came into the trashcan !! __ Normally , only mails coming from people in my addressbook will come in the IN-BOX , but it happens sometimes !! __ I don't even block porn or spam , why ?? __ For the simple fact , they use for 95% fake addresses , so , it's useless , and the most important thing is , DON'T open mails you don't trust , that's best way to stay out of troubles !!

Zarove,

I suspect that if you run the Spyware Blaster program using the download from the link that Laurent provided, it will clean-up your problem. It's free to use.

If you're still having problems, you might want to run an anti-virus program to scan for viruses - like Norton or Symantec.

BTW, I haven't had any problems with the Google toolbar and love having it. It's not a great pop-up window stopper, but it's a handy tool.

its all about personal preferance, Laurent, I unlocked my toolbar setup and then moved the google toolbar to the same line as the address bar and slid it over until the only part of it that shows is the search bar. that way it doesnt screw with my perspective.

I would recommend downloading some anti spyware. Laurent listed a couple good sources. just be careful, some anti spyware is actually sometimes adware in disguise, so KNOW YOUR SOURCE!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. I now use Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. Do a google search and find out where to download it. It's free. It fixed me right up. Good luck!

Why don't hackers take down the sites that the junk mail would have you go to? Maybe it is because they are all on the same side, you know evil and all.

The best spyware deterrent software I have found is Pest Patrol. They have a website. While spybot is good (ad-aware is OK), spybot does not catch all keylogger programs, while Pest Patrol seems to catch it all. I just got a new computer, and before I even set up the internet, I installed Pest Patrol and found 98 spyware programs already on my computer.

Isabel,

Is either Spybot or Pest Patrol a free download anywhere?

-- Glenn (glenn@nospam.com), January 20, 2004.

I'm not sure. As I often bring home things from work (that need to be done on my computer), I was allowed to install programs I needed (such as Office and Pest Patrol) and use my employer's liscense numbers. They, of course, already have these on discs. (We are allowed so many users per liscense number.) So, I'll have to check around. Let you know.
