Congratulations to Smith Chapel AME, Dallas TX -- 92 years and still going.

It was my privilege to attend worship service Sunday, 18 January, at Smith Chapel AME Church in Dallas Texas as guest of my long time friends, Jessie and Sallie Gardner. I, along with a fellow Allen Christian Endeavor worker, Tracy L Cross were attending a Christian Endeavor Summit planning meeting in Dallas and had an afternoon flight, so the Gardners, along with Janice Mosley, invited us to attend service at their church. We are indebted to them for their "southern hospitality".

It is very good to know that even though the Dept. of Christian Ed no longer really supports the Allen CE Fellowship, there are still some AME's who continue to participate in the Christian Endeavor program. I think the one at my local congregation is the only one in our conference and possibly in the Terrific Third District.

The church happened to be celebrating their 92nd anniversary and Presidinb Bishop McKinley Young was to deliver the message for the afternoon service. Unfortunately, we were unable to remain for that. It would have been nice to see Bishop Young again. I first met him when he was elected president of the then Richard Allen Youth Council in Atlanta in the 1960's.

Did you get a chance to visit Paul Quinn College during your visit to Dallas? QED

No, we did not have a chance. We barely got out of the hotel and only because of an afternoon flight and the generosity of the Gardners and Janice were we able to visit the church.
