It must have been a mosquito because he had been travelling by river an awful lot up until then and rivers and cool places are where mosquitoes lie the most.

no one is really that sure. all we know for sure, is that he was hit with a raging fever when he was 32. some say that he was bitten by a diseased mosquito. eventually, he also became delerious.
